Adidas
1 Adidas, one of the leading sports brands in the world, has turned 60 on August 18, 2009. It still seems an unlikely story: a modest shoemake, named Adi Dassler from a small rural town in Germany, 2 developed a range of sports products so original and so perfect that they are sought by athletes from all over the world. He created a brand as great as any in the world. An unlikely story, but not impossible. Impossible is Nothing.

it all started with shoes. 3 Shoes that, one day, would tread Wimbledon, win medals at the Olympic Games, and the FIFA World Cup. Athletes, record-breakers, and champions would wear them.

4 For Adidas,

is the world’s number one sportswear company with total sales of 10.3 billion and profit growth of 9% in 2007. 4 Things are now definitely on track and, 5 if the current marketing slogan, “Impossible is Nothing”, is anything to go by, the company is doing very well. 6 This is not surprising when you consider that Adidas now continuously outperforms the rest of the sector and has enjoyed eight years of continuous double-digit net income growth.
Back

5 Today, Adidas

Adidas has developed high-performance sports lines in collaboration with Stella McCartney, Yohji Yamamoto, Porsche Design, and Rolland Berry. Alongside providing performance products, Adidas understands that consumers make purchase decisions based not only on brand but also on availability, convenience, and extent of product offering. As a result, the company has been improving its distribution plan, concentrating on expanding its own outlets or “controlled” space and improving retail relationships. Now there are over 1,000 Adidas stores around the world and, in the run up to the Beijing Olympics, the company opened an average of two stores a month in China. By 2010, the aim is to make at least 30% of the group’s profits through controlled space.
