Household appliances - Energy efficiency in standby mode – Labeling

Preamble The National Institute of Standardizatio

n, INN, is the agency that is responsible for the study and preparation of technical standards nationwide. A member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Pan American Standards Commission (COPANT), representing Chile at these agencies. This rule is studied through the Technical Committee for household electric appliances, to establish the methodology for classification of power consumption in standby mode for appliances. Because there is no international standard in the development of this standard are taken into consideration the following background: Tables of Energy Efficiency in standby the appliances, Etiquetagem Brasileiro Program; Profiles of Products on standby for Australia's Standby Power Strategy 2002-2012; Technical background provided by the Committee.

The Explanatory Note included in a box 2 Normative references clause is an editorial change that came with the purpose of informing the Chilean standard correspondence with international standards cited in this statement.

This standard has been officially declared the Republic of Chile for Exempt Administrative Order No. 132, dated March 24, 2008, the Ministry of Economy, Development and Reconstruction, published in the Official Gazette of April 3, 2008.

1 Scope and field of application This rule establishes the methodology for classification of power consumption in standby mode for appliances. This standard specifies the test method for energy consumption espera1 way) and the characteristics of the energy efficiency label. This standard applies to major household appliances powered by grid containing standby apart from the other modes. 2 Normative references The following referenced document is indispensable for the application of this rule. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments). 3 Terms and definitions For purposes of this standard, the terms and definitions given in IEC 62301, and additionally the following: 3.1 Standby: power consumption mode when a device lowest is permanently connected to appropriate power source, which may persist indefinitely being used according to manufacturer's instructions, producing such a condition to go to another mode by manipulation of the user.
NOTE - The standby mode is usually an operation when compared to the use intended for the primary function of the device. The definition of standby in this statement applies only to the determination of standby power or standby power consumption under this policy.

4 Trials Energy consumption in the standby mode should be determined in accordance with IEC 62301. 5 Energy efficiency requirements In order to declare the energy efficiency of the device in standby mode, it must comply with a consumer value specified in Table 1.

6 Label requirements To declare the energy efficiency, standby equipment should have the label set forth in this rule. 6.1 Location The label must be visible and be either attached to or printed on the front, side or top of the device.

6.2 Permanence and Durability The tag must remain on the product and may only be withdrawn by the consumer. Durability Compliance must be verified by inspection and by rubbing the marking by hand for 15 s with a cloth soaked in water and again for 15 s with a cloth soaked in gasoline. After this test, the label must be clearly legible, can not be easily removed and should not show wrinkles.
NOTES 1) When considering the length of the marked, you must take into account the effect of normal use. For example, the markings made with paint or enamel than vitreous enamel on containers that are likely to be frequently cleaned, is not considered durable. 2) Gasoline used for this test is aliphatic solvent hexane having a maximum content of 0.1% aromatics by volume, a kauri-butanol value of 29, an initial boiling point of 65oC about dry point approximately 69oC and a specific mass of 0.66 kg / liter.

6.3 Information The label must be printed legibly and contain all information listed in Figure 1. 6.4 Dimensions The dimensions of the label must correspond to those shown in Figure 1. 6.5 Colors The colors of the label must correspond to those indicated in Table 2 below and Figure 1.

6.6 Fields of the label The fields of the label shown in Figure 1, are specified in Table 3 below:
