Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in and Introduction Today we are going to learn Module 3 My First Ride on a Train. What do you think of the topic? First of all, let`s see some words about transportation. 1.Activity1 on P21 2.Activity2 on P21 3.Activity3 on P21 get on: plane, motorbike, ship, ferry, bicycle, train, tram, bus get off: plane, motorbike, ship, ferry, bicycle, train, tram, bus get into: taxi, helicopter get out (of): taxi, helicopter ride: bicycle, motorbike drive: train, taxi, bus take off: plane, helicopter land: plane, helicopter 4.Activity4 on P21 Describe after the example and then ask some of them to report to all. 【5W&1H (who/when/where/what/why & how)】 Step 2 Pre-reading As we know, with the development of tourism, travel becomes very convenient and it has become a very important part in people’s life. Many people travel everywhere during the holiday. Today I will take you to a beautiful country – Australia. 1.Background knowledge of Australia(Activity1 on P22) Look at these pictures and answer the questions about Australia. Suggested answers: A1. about 20 million A2. Canberra A3. on the east /southeast coast A4. desert A5. koala bear, possum, duck-billed platypus, kangaroo, echidna and dingo. Some of these animals are marsupials, that is, the mother keeps the baby in a pouch on her stomach. 2. Vocabulary Before we read the text, let’s look at the words in Activity 2 on page 22. Match some of the words in the box with the 6 definitions. If you are not sure, you can turn to your dictionary for help.

(Check the answers after the Ss finish it.) Step 3 Reading 1. Fast reading(Individual Work) Read the passage quickly, and ask Ss what the passage is about. Suggested answers: It is about traveling to the central part of Australia. 2. Careful reading(Individual Work) Read the passage again and catch/match the main idea of each paragraph. Suggested answers: Para. 1 I had my first ride on a long-distance train. Para. 2 The scenery along the railway. Para. 3 How I spent the time on the train. Para. 4 Why is the train called the Ghan? Para. 5 Things about the camels. Para. 6 The fate of the camels nowadays. 3.Language points(Ref: Notes to the text) 4.Read the passage one more time to understand it better and then finish Activity4 on P24. Suggested answers: 1. No . She travelled on the train recently. 2. No, it was Alice Springs in the central part of Australia. 3. No, at the first there were fields , then it was desert. 4. Yes, she studied Chinese. 5. Yes , at first , but the horses didn’t like the hot weather. 6. No, they use the train now. *5.Activity5 on P24(This part can be omitted.)

Teaching content:
Grammar1; Function & Vocabulary

Teaching important points:
1.Learn to research by cooperation and summarize the -ed form used as an adjective or attribute; 2.Learn to make use of the polite expressions; 3.Remember the words expressing places and activities that can be done in these places.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Lead the students to be active in class; 2.Remember and make full use of the polite expressions showing different attitudes freely.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Check the homework in last period. Step 2 Grammar 1.Revise the past form and the past participle, the difference of them, especially the past participle used as attribute. Ask the students to remember the past participle of irregular verbs and the basic meanings of the past participle.(Ref: Grammar6 on P110) 2.Finish the activity in this part on P24. Step 3 Function 1.Ask the class to read through the conversation and then ask some pairs to act it out in class.(Activity1) 2.Discussion (Activity2) 3.Learning the polite expressions (Activity3) Suggested answers: Ticket inspector: Excuse me, could I see your ticket? Passenger: Pardon? Ticket inspector: Would you mind showing me your ticket? Passenger: I’m sorry, I don’t understand. Ticket inspector: Would you mind if I saw your ticket? Passenger: Oh, here you are. Ticket inspector: I’m very sorry but this is an old ticket. Passenger: Pardon? Ticket inspector: The fact is that it’s out of date. It’s a month old. 1.Encourage the students to talk about their childhood; 2.Help the students make full use of past tense time expressions to describe a past event; 3.Help the students improve their reading,speaking as well as listening ability.

Teaching difficult points:
1.Lead the students to talk in class actively; 2.Deal with some difficult language points. 3.Help the students learn how to get effective information while listening.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Check the homework in last period. Step 2 Lead-in Everyone has experienced his/her childhood,which is unique.Different people have different childhood.Some are happy ones and others are unhappy ones.If you are interested in others` childhood,please read through the Reading and Speaking part. Step 3 Reading and Speaking 1.Read and answer the question: Which childhood memories are happy and which are unhappy? Step 1 Greetings and Revision 1.Greet the students as usual. 2.Ask some students to read out the text in reading part OR new words in this module. Step 2 Cultural Corner 1.Lead-in: Ask the following questions. 1)What is the fastest train in the world? 2)Where is it? 3)How much do you know about the Maglev Train? Suggested answers:The fastest train in the world is the Maglev Train between Shanghai Pudong Airport and Longyang Station in downtown.It can travel at a speed of over 400 kilometres per hour. 2.Read through the passage with the questions in your mind and then answer them. 3.Check the answers and explain some language points.(Ref: Notes to the text) 4.Read again to understand it better. Step 3 Task In writing part,we have talked about the similar topic and written about it,so this part can be omitted. Step 4 Module File This section lists the main areas of language dealt with in this module. The teacher may give the students about 5 minutes to go through it,ticking the things they are confident that they know, putting a question mark next to those things they are not sure of, and a cross next to those they don`t know.Then they may make up for it accordingly.Or you may provide a chance for them to have a consolidation.
