高中定语从句详细讲解
在复合句中,修饰某一名词或代词,用作定语的从句叫做定语从 句(attributive clause)。 被定语从句所修饰的词叫做先行词(antecedent)。 定语从句必须放在先行词之后。引导定语从句的关联词有关系代词 who、whom、whose、which、that 和关系副词 when、where、why 等。 Finally, the t

二、关系代词和关系副词的功用能 关系代词和关系副词用来引导定语从句,在先行词和定语从句之 间起纽带作用,使二者联系起来。关系代词和关系副词可作定语从句 的一个成分。关系代词可作主语、宾语、定语;关系副词可作状语。 1、作主语 关系代词在定语从句中作主语时,从句的谓语动词的人称和数应 与先行词一致。 All that is needed is a supply of oil. 所需要的是大量的油。 (引导词 that 在句中作主语) A plane is a machine that can fly. 飞机是会飞的机器。 (引导词 that 在句中作主语) The foreigner who visited our class yesterday is from Canada. 昨天到我班来访的外国人来自加拿大。 (引导词 who 在句中作主 语) They planted the trees which didn't need much water. 他们种植了需水不多的树木。 (引导词 which 在句中作主语) 2、作宾语 在定语从句里作宾语的关系代词在口语中常被省去 The noodles (that) I cooked were delicious. 我煮的面条美味可口。 (引导词 that,可省略) The fish (which) we bought wes not fresh. 我们买的鱼不新鲜。 (引导词 which,可省略)

英语中的关系代词有 who,whom,whose,which,that 和 as。它 们的用法如下: 1、who,whom 的用法 who 和 whom 指人, who 在定语从句中作主语; whom 在定语从句 中作宾语,在限制性定语从句中可省略。在口语中可用 who 代替 whom。 In the beginning, people who bought the tomato often got angry. 起初,买到西红柿的人常常会生气。(作主语) The person (whom) you should write to is Mr. Ball. 你应该给他写信的人是波尔先生。(whom 作宾语能省略) His mother, whom he loved dearly, died in 1818. 他很爱你的母亲,她于1818年去世了。 (whom 引导非限制性定语 从句,作宾语但不能省略) 2、whose 的用法 whose 指人或物,在定语从句中作定语,指物时常可用 of which 取代。 I have a friend whose father is a mayor. 我有个朋友,他父亲是市长。 We lived in a house whose window faces south. 我们住在窗口朝南的房子里。 3、which 的用法 which 指物,在定语从句中作主语和宾语,作宾语时,在限制性定

6、关系代词 who 与 that 的区别 (1)当先行词是 he、people、those 等时,引导词常用 who。 He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man. 不到长城非好汉。 Those who are for me, put up your hands. 同意我的人请举手。 I'll never forget the people who have helped me. 我将永远不会忘记那些帮助过我的人。 (2)当引导词作定语从句的表语时常用 that。 She isn't the little girl that she used to be. 她再也不是过去的那个小姑娘了。 He is the man that I asked for help yesterday. 他就是我昨天求助的人。 7、as 的用法 (1)as 引导限制性定语从句通常构成 such...as 或 the same...as 固 定搭配,as 在从句中可作主语、表语或宾语。 I should like to use the same tool as you used yesterday. 我想用你昨天使用的那种工具。(作宾语) Many of the sports were the same as they are now. 过去的许多运动项目同现在的一样。(作表语) Don’t read such books as are not worth reading. Read such books as you can understand.

as 作关系代词,还可用来引导非限制性定语从句,可以用来代替 一个句子或单词,as 引导的句子可放在句首、句末或句中。 The moon, as is known to everybody, travels round the earth once every month. As is known to everybody, the moon travels round the earth once every month. The moon travels round the earth once every month, as is known to everybody. 众所周知,月球一月绕地球一周土工格栅。 8、but 的用法 but 既可指人,又可指物,常在定语从句中充当主语。but 本身含 “否定”的意思,其作用相当于“that/which/who?not”。它前面的 主句必须有“否定”的词(如 no, not, little, few, hardly 等)。but 引导的 肯定定语从句和否定的主句连用,通过双重否定达到强烈肯定的效 果。 There is no mother but loves her own children.(=There is no mother that/who doesn’t love her children.)没有不爱自己子女的母亲。 There were few people but were hurt.(= There were few people who/that were not hurt.)几乎没有人不受伤。 9、than 的用法 than 既可指人,又可指物,可作关系代词来引导定语从句,than 前通常有比较级的词。

Don’t give children more money than is needed. 给孩子们的钱不要超过所需。 He has got more than he asked for. 他所得到的比他所要求的还要多。 Fewer friends than we had expected came to our evening party. 来参加晚会的朋友比我们预料的还要少。 四、关系副词 英语中的关系副词有 where,when,why 等。 1、when 的用法 when 指时间,修饰表时间的先行词,在定语从何中作时间状语。 July and August are the months when the weather is hot. 七八月是天 气很热的月份。 He came last night when I was out. 他昨晚来时,我出去了。 Do you remember one afternoon ten years ago when I came to your house and borrowed a necklace of yours? 你还记得十年前的一个下午,我到你家借项链的事吗? 2、where 的用法 where 指地点,修饰表地点的先行词,在定语从句中作地点状语。 高中英语定语从句用法讲解 After living in Paris for fifty years he returned to the small town where he grew up as a child. 在巴黎住了五十年后,他回到他童年时生活的小城镇。

定人定物有本领。定时间要用 when,定地点 where 行。关系代(副) 词作成分,唯作宾语可以省。 五、“介词+关系代词”用法 1、介词+which 在定语从句中分别作时间、地点和原因状语 介词+which 在关系分句中分别作时间,地点和原因状语,代替相 应的关系副词 when,where 和 why。 I still remember the day on which (=when)I first came to school. 我仍然 记得初来学校的那一天。 The factory in which (=where) I work is a large one. 我工作的工厂是一个大厂子。 This is the reason for which(=why)he was put in prison. 这就是他为什么被关起来的原因。 In the office I never seem to have time until after 5:30 p.m., by which time many people have gone home. 在办公室里,我好像知道五点半从有时间,在此前很多人都已回 家了。 注意:关系代词 that 在定语从句中作介词的宾语时,介词不能放 在它的前面,只能放在从句中有关动词的后面。 The village that she lives in is 100 metres away. 她住在100米远的土 工布村庄里。 2、介词+which(指物)/whom(指人)在定语从句中作地点状语 介词+which(指物)/whom(指人)在关系分句中作地点状语,表示存

在关系,关系分句主谓常须倒置。

(一)定义及相关术语 1.定语从句:修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫定语从句。定语从句一 般紧跟在它所修饰的先行词之后。 2.先行词:被定语从句修饰的词叫先行词。 3.关系词:引导定语从句的词叫关系词。 关系词有关系代词和关系副词。关系代词有 that, which, who, whom, whose, as 等;关系副词有 when, where, why 等。 关系词通常有下列三个作用:A、引导定语从句;B、代替先行词; C、在定语从句中担当一个成分。例如: The man who is shaking hands with my father is a policeman. 该句中, who is shaking hands with my father 是定语从句,修饰先行词 the man, “who”是引导定语从句的关系词,代替先行词 the man,在 定语从句中作主语。

(二)关系代词引导的定语从句 1.who 指人,在定语从句中作主语。 The boys who are playing football are from Class One. 正在踢足球的 男孩是一班的。

Those who want to go to the museum must be at the school gate at 7 tomo rrow morning. 想去博物馆的人必须在明晨 7 点到大门口集合。 Yesterday I helped an old man who had lost his way. 一位迷路的老人。 That is the teacher who teaches us physics. 理的老师。 2.whom 指人,在定语从句中做宾语,常可省略。 Mr Liu is the person ( whom ) you talked about on the bus. 是你们在公共汽车上谈论的那个人。 Li Ming is just the boy ( whom ) I want to see. 李明正是我想要见的 你正在等 刘先生就 那就是教我们物 昨天我帮助了

He likes to read books which are written by foreign writers. 他喜欢外国 作家写的书。 The house which is by the lake looks nice. 湖边的那幢房子看上去很漂 亮。 This is the pen ( which ) he bought yesterday. 这是他昨天买的钢笔。 The film ( which ) they went to see last night was not interesting at all. 他 们昨晚看的电影一点意思也没有。 4.That 指人时,相当于 who 或 whom;指物时,相当于 which.。在定 语从句中作主语或宾语,作宾语时常可省略。 The number of people that / who come to visit this city each year reaches o ne million. 每年来参观这座城市的人数达一百万。 Where is the man that / whom I saw this morning? 我今天早上看到的那 个人在哪儿? The person that /whom you introduced to me is very kind. 你介绍给我的 那个人很友好。 The season that / which comes after spring is summer. 春天以后的季节是 夏季。 Yesterday I received a letter that / which came from Australia. 昨天我收到 了一封来自澳大利亚的信。 5.Whose 通常指人,也可指物,在定语从句中做定语。 I visited a scientist whose name is known all over the country. 我拜访了一 个全国知名的科学家。

He has a friend whose father is a doctor. 他有一个爸爸当医生的朋友。 I once lived in the house whose roof has fallen in. 我曾经住在那幢屋顶已 经倒塌了的房子里。 注意:指物时,常用下列结构来代替: The classroom whose door is broken will soon be repaired. The classroom the door of which is broken will soon be repaired. Do you like the book whose cover is yellow? Do you like the book the cover of which is yellow?

(三)“介词+关系代词”引导的定语从句 关系代词在定语从句中作介词宾语时,从句常常由“介词+关系代词” 引出。 The school (which / that) he once studied in is very famous. The school in which he once studied is very famous. 他曾经就读过的学 校很出名。 Tomorrow I’ll bring here the magazine (which / that) you asked for. Tomorrow I’ll bring here the magazine for which you asked.明天我将把 你要的杂志带来。 This is the boy (whom / who / that) I played tennis with yesterday. This is the boy with whom I played tennis with yesterday. 这是我昨天跟 他打台球的男孩。 We’ll go to hear the famous singer (whom / who / that) we have often tal

ked about. We’ll go to hear the famous singer about whom we have often talked.我 们将去听那位我们经常谈论的著名歌唱家演唱。 The manager whose company I work in pays much attention to improving our working conditions. The manager in whose company I work pays much attention to improving our working conditions. 我工作的那家公司的经理十分注意改善我们的工作条件。 注意:1. 含有介词的短语动词一般不拆开,介词仍放在短语动词 的后面。如:look for, look after, take care of 等。 This is the watch (which / that) I am looking for. (正) 的手表。 This is the watch for which I am looking . (误) The babies (whom / who / that) the nurse is looking after are very healthy . (正) 那个保姆照看的小宝宝们都很健康。 The babies after whom the nurse is looking are very healthy. (误) 2.若介词放在关系代词前,关系代词指人时只可用 whom,不可用 who, that;关系代词指物时只可用 which,不可用 that。关系代词是 所有格时用 whose。 The man with whom you talked just now is my neighbour. (正) 你刚才 跟他谈话的那个人是我的邻居。 The man with that / who you talked just now is my neighbour. (误) 这是我正在找

(误) 3.“介词+关系代词”前还可有 some, any, none, all, both, neither, many, most, each, few 等代词或者数 词。如: He loves his parents deeply, both of whom are very kind to him. 他深深 地爱着他的父母,他们俩待他都很好。 In the basket there are quite many apples, some of which have gone bad. 篮子里有好些苹果,有些已经坏了。 There are forty students in our class in all, most of whom are from big citi es. 我们班总共有40个学生,大多数来自大城市。

2. where 指地点,在定语从句中作地点状语。 Shanghai is the city where I was born. 上海是我出生的城市。 The house where I lived ten years ago has been pulled down. 我十年前 住的房子已经被拆掉了。 I visited the farm where a lot of cows were raised . 我参观了那个饲养 了许多奶牛的农场。 Is this the place where they fought the enemy? 这是他们当初打敌人的 地方吗? 3. why 指原因,在定语从句中作原因状语。 Please tell me the reason why you missed the plane. 请告诉我你误机的 原因。 The reason why he was punished is unknown to us. 他受惩罚的原因我 们都不知道。 I don’t know the reason why he looks unhappy today. 我不知道他今天 为什么看上去不愉快。 注意:关系副词引导的定语从句经常可以用“介词+关系代词”引导 的定语从句来表示。如:

From the years when / in which he was going to primary school in the country he had known what he wanted to be when he grew up. 他在农村读小学时,他就已经知道长大后要做什么。 Great changes are taking place in the city where / in which they live. 他们生活的城市正发生巨大的变化。 The reason why / for which he refused the invitation is quite clear. 他为什么拒绝接受邀请的原因是十分明了的。 (五)限制性定语从句和非限制性定语从句 限制性定语从句 形式上:不用逗号“,”与主句隔开。 意义上:是先行词不可缺少的定语,如删除,主句则失去意义或意思 表达不完整。 译法上:译成先行词的定语:“...的” 关系词的使用上: A. 作宾语时可省略 B. 可用 that 替 whom 非限制性定语从句 形式上:用逗号“,”与主句隔开。 意义上:只是对先行词的补充说明,如删除,主句仍能表达完整的意 思。 译法上:通常译成主句的并列句。 关系词的使用上:A.不可省略 who 代替 whom B.不用 that C.不可用 C. 可用 who 代 自从

限制性定语从句举例: The teacher told me that Tom was the only person that I could depend on. 老师告诉我说汤姆是我唯一的可以依靠的人。 China is a country which has a long history. 中国是一个历史悠久的国 家。 In the street I saw a man who was from Africa. 在街上我看到一个来自 非洲的人。 非限制性定语从句举例 : His mother, who loves him very much, is strict with him. 他妈妈十分地 爱他,对他要求很严格。 China, which was founded in 1949, is becoming more and more powerful . 中国是 1949 年成立的, 现在正变得越来越强大。 Last summer I visited the People’s Great Hall, in which many important meetings are held every year. 去年夏天,我参观了人民大会堂,在那 儿每年都要举行许多重要会议。

(一)限制性定语从句中只能用 that 引导定语从句的情况 1.当先行词是 everything, anything, nothing (something 除 外), all, none, few, little, some 等不定代词时,或当先行词受 every, any, all, some, no, little, few, much 等代词修饰时。如: Have you taken down everything that Mr. Li said? 李老师讲的你都记 下来了吗?

There seems to be nothing that is impossible to him in the world. 对他来 说似乎世界上没有什么不可能的事。 All that can be done has been done. 所有能做的都做好了。 There is little that I can do for you. 我不能为你干什么。 He stayed in the library and looked up any information that they needed. 他呆在图书馆查找所需的资料。 注意:当先行词指人时,偶尔也可用关系代词 who,如: Any man that / who has a sense of duty won’t do such a thing. 任何有责 任感的人都不会做这样的事。 All the guests that / who were invited to her wedding were important peo ple. 所有应邀来参加她婚礼的客人都是重要人物。 2.当先行词被序数词修饰时。如: The first place that they visited in London was the Big Ben. 在伦敦他们 参观的第一个地方是大本钟。 3.当先行词被形容词最高级修饰时。如: This is the best film that I have ever seen. 这是我看过的最好的电影。 4.当先行词被 the very, the only 修饰时。如: This is the very dictionary that I want to buy. 这正是我要买的词典。 After the fire in his house, the old car is the only thing that he owns. 家 里发生了火灾过后,那辆旧车成了他的唯一拥有。 注意:当先行词指人时,偶尔也可用关系代词 who。如: Wang Hua is the only person in our school who will attend the meeting.
