Unit 5 Music Lesson 2 Liu Hongwei
Background information: Students: High school students Grade 1 Lesson duration: 45 mins Teaching aims: 1 Knowledge aims: Enable the Ss to understand the details about the passage The Band that Wasn’t. Teaching aids: blackboard, PPT, pictures, chalk. Teaching contents: The Band that Wasn’t. Teaching procedures: 1 Dictate words and phrases they learned. (7-10mins) 2 Reading (30mins) Pre-reading: 1 listens to the music of Monkees (3mins)

2 Ask students these questions: (1) Have you heard about any of the famous bands in the world? List some of them. Which one do you like best? Why? (2) Do you know anything about “The Monkees”? (3 mins)
“The Monkees” is a band that was first popular in the 1960s in American. Unlike most bands of the time, the Monkees were not found by its members rather by TV producers. They were a fictional band in the TV show of the same name. The band was composed of Mike, Nesmith, Mickey Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork. All the members had some musical experience.

While- reading: 1 Ask the students to read the text quickly and ask some questions about the text.

2 Read the passage again and find out the main ideas of each paragraph. Suggested answer:

Most of them were based loosely on the band called “The Beatles” They became more serious about their work and started to play their own instruments and write their own songs like a real band. They produced their own records and started touring and playing their own music. The band broke up in about 1970, but reunited in the mid-1980s. they produced a new record in 1996, which was a celebration of their time as a real band

If we are honest with ourselves, most of us have dreamed of being famous sometime in our lives. Most musicians often meet and form a band. Sometimes they play in the street to passer-by so that they can earn some extra money and this also gives them a chance to realize their dream. There was once a band started in a different way. The musicians of whom the band was formed played jocks on each other as well as played music, whose music and jocks were loosely based on “The Battles”. Their exciting performances were copied by other groups. “The Monkees” played their own instruments and wrote their own music. Though it broke up in 1970, it reunited in the mid-1980s and it still popular today.

Optional activity:do exercise (P35) End of lesson summary: Tell students today’s main task is to understand this article and improve ability of their English reading. Home work: 1 Write a composition about your favorite band (80-100 words). 2 Collect some information about your favorite music, and learn a song you like very much. 3 preview the attributive clause.
