glish (Compulsory) 1 Unit 3 “Travel Journal”. Fast reading is the second class of “Journey down the Mekong River”. Fast reading can enable students to understand the gist of the article, to improve the reading ability, and to lay a foundation for the next class to learn careful-reading. Student analysis: High school students have read a lot, so they already have some reading ability. But it is difficult for them to fully understand the content by rapid reading and use their own language to summarize the main idea. Students’ ability is poor, therefore, they need to develop their ability to integrate knowledge by reading. Teaching aims: 1. Knowledge and ability: Master the main idea of this passage by fast-reading Improve their ability of doing multiple choice exercises by practicing their fast-reading skills. 2. Process and methods: By studying independently and co-operative study to improve their ability of reading. 3. Emotional attitude and value: By learning today’s lesson, enhance their interest of travel Improve their love for our country by looking at the pictures of The Mekong and reading the passage on their books. Important points and difficult points 1. Maintain the skills of fast-reading. 2. Master the main idea of the passage. Teaching methods: study independently, co-operative study, group-discussion. 2. Show learning aims and give them some guide before fast reading.（幻灯片 5 向学生 们展示快速阅读的方法） Step2. Reading 1. Skimming: First let them read true or false questions on their learning plan, then give them seven to ten minutes to read the passage quickly. And make sure the students know what to do. After reading they can do questions independently. Then they can show their answers orally .Other student should judge whether their answers are true or false. At last the teacher can show her answers to students and let them know the correct answers,encourage them and enhance their confidence. 先让学生熟识判断正误习题， （ 然后带着习题阅读文章并口头回 答问题让其他同学判断答案是否正确,最后老师展示答案。 ） 2.Careful reading Let them read the text again and find the answers for multiple
choice exercises on their learning plan.(read for seven to ten minutes) This part is a little more difficult than true or false questions, so they need to discuss in groups and finish the task, at the same time they need to find the sentences that contain the message words of each question. After discussion they can write their answers on the blackboard. Finally, The teacher and students check the answers on the blackboard together.
