II. Analysis of teaching material
The topic of this unit is mu

sic and this class focuses on the comprehensive reading section--The Band that Wasn’t. This passage introduces how a common band was formed and some different kinds of music. And then, it introduces how the Monkees developed into a real band and became successful. In this passage and comprehend the passage better. By studying of this reading, students can gain more knowledge about music and bands. And also they can improve their reading skills, such as scanning and skimming, especially the skills in grasping the main idea and paying attention to details by extensive reading.

Ⅲ. Analysis of students
The students are in Grade 1. They have mastered some basic English knowledge and reading skills, such as skimming, scanning, etc. The topic of this passage is music and students are still at an age that would like to know more new and interesting things .However, some students of this class have poor ability to use English and they lack active learning capacity.So I shall set up some activity and help the students in different levels to learn English.

Ⅳ.Teaching Aims

(2)Let students to learn from the succesful story of the Monkess and fight for their dreams.

Good morning, class. Today we are going to talk about music. Ask students: Do you like music? How does music make you feel? Ask some students to answer the question.

2. Warming up by listening

Ask students: How much do you know about music? Can you tell about different kinds of music? Let students turn to page 33. Look at the pictures and listen to some music. Let them if they match music with pictures. And then, ask some students check the answer Ask students: What kind of music do you like better, Chinese or Western, classical or modern? Why? Let students discuss these questions in pair and share their opinions with one another. While they are talking, go to different groups and listen to their ideas. Then, invite 3-5 students to share their ideas.

Look at the pictures and listen to some music to match music with pictures.

Let students learn more about different kinds of music and arouse student’s intrests

3. Warming up by discussing

Discuss these questions in pair and share their opinions with one another.

Develop the students’ oral English ability and enhance their team-work spirit.

Do you know any famous bands? List some if you do. And which one dou you like best? Why? Let students work in groups of four and share ideas to group mates. While they are talking, go to different groups and listen to their ideas. Then ask some groups to share the group idea with the class.

Work in group of four, list some bands they know and talk about which brand they like best and reasons to their group mates. Then group leader stand up and share the group idea with the class.

Plays a song “I’m a believer” which was sung by the Monkees, with the words of the song printed on the screen. Ask students: Do you know anything about the Monkees?

3. Prediction

Let student look at the title and pictures in the reading passage, predict what the reading is about.

Practice students’ reading skills and encourage students to precict and get information from title or pictures.

Let students finish the exercise1 in Comprehending. And then check the answer. Ask students: What can we learn from the Monkees? What is the most important thing for a successful band? Why? Let students work in groups of four and share ideas to group mates. While they are talking, go to different groups and listen to their ideas. Then ask some groups to share the group idea with the class.

Enable students to undrstand the reading better and learn the Monkes success lies in their hard work,so the rode to success is tough and we should face difficulties and challenges bravely.
