My View on the College Entrance Examination
Ladies and gentlemen! I am ** from **. Tonight, it’s my great honor to be here and give you
a speech. Now I am going to talk about the College Entrance Examination in China.
To some extent, the College entrance examination has its own advantages. As we know, the examination is supposed to be a path to brilliant future, and the excellent performance of students can bring glory both to their teachers and family. In the standardized examination, everyone in the same province faces the same criteria, that is, the same test papers with the same time limit. It is no doubt that the exam offers everyone the same opportunity to succeed and an important way to make their dreams come true. And as for the country, it has set up a relatively fair and efficient approach to select the excellent students for further study in the college based on their academic performance. Only in this way will their efforts pay off. One day, through their consistent efforts, they will surely become the contributors and backbones of the social development in China.
However, as the old saying goes, “every coin has two sides”; the exam has its disadvantages as well. With the development of the exam, its problems gradually emerge. Since the exam is of such significance that it can almost determine the whole life of a student, nearly all students and schools cares only about scores of the exam. The students are trained in a mechanical and arduous way, just like machines only to produce the answers to the questions in the exam. To some degree, their free thoughts that should have soared are locked, so gradually they lack creativity, but attach too much importance to the memorizing answers to the exams. What is worse, their happy spare hours are squeezed for the various training courses in cram schools. For they only hold one aim in mind, that is, to get a desirable score in the college entrance examination. In general, the exam poses too much pressure and tension on the students.
As a student, I think it is too rash to draw a conclusion whether the exam is good or bad, because it is a double-edged sword. But it is the fact that presently our students should face the exam. Life is like a battlefield. If you want to get something, you must fight your best for it. I know there are many obstacles on the way to success, but I always believe that God help those who help themselves, and our diligence and perseverance will surely pay off some day if we stick to our goal and carry on.
That’s all. Thank you for your attention.
