Word power
Thoughts on the design: 1. 通过呈现一些图片让学生了解什么是坏习惯,然后学会用英语表述“改 掉坏习惯” 。 2. 要求学生初步掌握哪三种是英语中的缩略词。 Teaching Aims: 1. Learn to read a passage of Part A, which is mainly about stopping

bad habits. 2. Enlarge the students’ vocabulary of stopping bad habits. 3. Learn different forms of abbreviations. Teaching Important Points: 1. Master the phrases related to habits and use them freely. 2. Understand some abbreviations. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Greetings 1. Greet the whole class as usual. 2. Check their homework if any.

Step 2 Brainstorming Can you think of any bad habits in our daily life? (Smoking/spitting/staying up too late/littering/watching TV all day long/eating sugary foods before going to bed …) 【设计说明】教师通过提问让学生“热身” ,进入学习的状态。

Step 3 Vocabulary learning Part A: Read the short passage in Part A carefully, and then find some phrases about stopping bad habits in the passage. 【设计说明】教师通过让学生朗读 Part A, 了解哪些词组在英语中可以用来表述 “改掉坏习惯” 。

Step 4

Vocabulary extension

1. Part B: Filling in the blanks with proper phrases in Part A about stopping some bad habits according to some pictures. 2. Summarize some phrases about habit: habit 常用词组: be in a/the habit of doing 有某种习惯 break off the habit of 改掉??的习惯

fall into the habit of doing 养成某习惯 break sb. of a habit 使某人改掉某习 惯 form a habit of 养成[染上]某习惯 give up the habit of 改掉??的习惯

get sb. into the habit of 使某人染上某 get out of a/the habit of 改掉某种习惯 嗜好 get into the habit of doing 养成[染上] slide into bad habits 不知不觉地染上 某习惯 坏习惯

Step 5 Abbreviation: Part A Explain the different forms of abbreviation to the students by asking the following questions. 1. What are abbreviation words according to Part A on page 39? 2. What are three types of abbreviations? 3. What are general abbreviations? 4. What is an acronym? 5. What is an initialism?

Part B Check the answers together with the students to see if they have really understood the three types of abbreviations. General abbreviations: Info, Eve

Acronyms: UNESCO, scuba Initialisms: CD, CCTV 【设计说明】教师通过具体的例子来说明什么是缩略词,有哪三种具体的形式。
