It was a large celebration. All of their friends and family came to see the lovely ceremony. Everyone could tell that the love they had for each other was true. A few months later, the wife came to the husband with a piece of advice, “I read in a magazine, a while ago, about how we can strengthen our marriage,” she offered. “Each of us will write a list of the things that we find a bit annoying with the other person. Then, we can talk about how we can fix them together and make our lives happier together.” The husband agreed. So each of them tried to think of the things that annoyed them about the other and wrote down what they came up with. The next morning, at the breakfast table, they decided that they would go over their lists. “I’ll start,” offered the wife. She took out her list. It had many items on it, enough to fill three pages. In fact, as she started reading the list of the little annoyances, she noticed that tears were starting to appear in her husband’s eyes because he never thought that he had so many shortcomings. The wife continued to read until she had read all three pages to her husband. “Now, you read your list and then we’ll talk about the things on both of our lists,” she said happily. Quietly the husband stated, “I don’t have anything on my list. I think that you are perfect. I don’t want you to change anything for me. You are lovely and wonderful and I wouldn’t want to try and change anything about you.” The wife, touched by his honesty and the depth of his love for her and his acceptance of her, turned her head and wept. In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don’t really have to go looking for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and promise. Why waste time in this world looking for the bad, disappointing or annoying when we can look around us and see the wonderful things before us? 36. Why were there tears in the husband’s eyes when the wife read his annoyances?
高三 unit 1 学案 第 3 页

A. Because he had no courage to face his shortcomings. B. Because he never thought he had so many annoyances in his wife’s eyes. C. Because he was sorry that he didn’t find any annoyance about his wife. D. Because he didn’t think he deserved to have such a perfect wife. 37. After hearing the husband’s words, the wife felt . A. moved and ashamed B. sad and disappointed C. satisfied and proud D. surprised and confused 38. The story is intended to tell us that . A. disappointment cannot be avoided in our life B. young couples should be more tolerant (宽容的) to each other C. we should turn a blind eye to other people’s blame D. we should try to look for and see the wonderful things around us B There is no question that teenagers need rules, which is often not a difficult thing for parents to give. What can be more challenging is giving teenagers their freedom. It can be difficult to draw the line between the two. However, some issues cannot be changed by discussion and require firm rules. For instance, rules should be established concerning driving the family car. I will admit that I have no problem coming up with rules. To me they make life easier and they leave no room for questioning. What can be more difficult, however, is giving my teens their freedom. I guess there are really two primary reasons for this. One is that sometimes I am afraid to give them freedom. The second is that I’m not always so sure what the freedom should be. It helps that I have a husband with whom I can discuss these problems. We talk about them, give our thoughts and then we come up with an agreement. Sometimes one of us might be more unwilling but we know that there comes a time when we really do have to learn how to let go of the reins (缰绳) a bit. If we try to make life have nothing but rules, we are more likely to see our teen’s rebelling (反抗). They need to know that while we do have certain expectations, we also trust them to begin making their own choices and decisions. How else can they do that unless they are given the space and room to do it? It’s really all about balance and I will be the first to admit that it can be a challenge to carry out. However, it is a necessary part of growing up. Yes, teens definitely need rules but they also need freedom. 39. According to the first paragraph, it is difficult to decide . A. whether the children need rules B. whether the children should be given freedom C. how much freedom should be given to children D. what issues require non-negotiable rules

Rules are difficult to make for parents. B. Rules and freedom are similarly important. C. We should give children freedom as much as possible. D. Rules are more important than freedom. 42. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 probably refer to? A. Problems. B. Children. C. Rules. D. Reasons. C Lack of exercise is considered a risk factor for cancer. There is considerable evidence that inactivity is connected with increased risk for lung cancer, breast cancer, etc. In the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study, more than 32,000 people (25,000 men and 7,000 women) were given a preventive medical examination that included a machine exercise test to measure physical fitness. They were given a physical fitness score, with one being the lowest and five being the highest fitness level. Then these people were followed for an average of 8 years. During this time, 179 men and 44 women died of cancer. Data from the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study show people have lower rates of cancer with higher levels of physical fitness. Studies from the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas suggest that men with high fitness levels are less likely to die of cancer. The Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study also found that fitness level was more important than weight in predicting longevity (长寿). While results showed that fitness and normal weight are the ideal combination, researchers found that men who were fat but performed well in the machine performance had just a slightly increased all-cause death rate, including cancer, compared to the more slim men. The fat, but fit, men particularly lived longer than the slim, but flabby (肌肉松弛的), men. These statistics called for a warning to the overweight: The first health goal for the overweight should be to become as fit as possible at their current weight. 43. The text mainly talks about . A. the effect of exercise on reducing chances of cancer B. how to lose weight effectively C. different ways to keep slim D. fat men live longer than slim ones 44. What’s Paragraph 2 mainly about? A. The study on the life of the overweight. B. The study on the relationship between taking exercise and cancer. C. The study on the ways of losing weight. D. The study on the effects of machine exercise. 45. People with are more likely to die of cancer according to the text.

It may seem simple, but it can make a big difference in your life. I have been keeping journals for years. Writing all the lessons I learn and all the ideas I get has become a habit for me. 51 Here are some benefits you will get by keeping a journal. ◆ It prevents you from losing an idea. Have you ever gotten an idea only to lose it later because you didn’t write it down? 52 But then I developed the habit of writing down every idea that came into my mind as soon as possible. If I’m away from my computer, I usually write it down on a piece of paper that I bring wherever I go. I will then transfer the idea to the journal in my computer. ◆ It helps you review all the lessons (教训) you’ve learned. By reviewing your journal, you can quickly see the lessons you’ve learned and the ideas you’ve gotten. 53 You can use the ideas to propel (鞭策) yourself forward. 54 After keeping a journal for years, you can look back at it and see how far ◆ you’ve gone. Things that were big problems in the past might seem small today. The raw ideas you had in the past might have been realized today. ◆ It helps you expand (扩展) your ideas. When you try to come up with a sentence to express an idea, you are thinking actively about it. 55 At the end, you will expand your ideas.

A. I often experienced that myself. B. It trains you to express your thoughts. C. It allows you to see your progress over time. D. Just use whatever tool you feel comfortable with. E. Thinking actively helps you connect your idea to another idea. F. And to be honest, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without it. G. Then you can do whatever necessary to avoid repeating the same mistakes. 第三部分 写作(共两节,满分35分) 第一节 短文改错 (共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分) 只允许修改10处,多者(从第11处起)不计分。 Some students think a difficult exam is just like a challenge but that the more difficult it is, better it will be.
