Teaching Plan Teaching aims: After the class, students are able to ? know some useful words and phrases of this unit ? be guided to learn some vocabulary learning strategies ? know how to use the vocabularies in certain context Teaching focus: To encourage students to learn the vocabulary learning strategies Teaching difficulties: How to guide the students to use the vocabularies in certain context Teaching aids: Chalk, blackboard, pictures, PPT Teaching procedures: Stage 1 presentation(10min) Step 1 review& lead in (Good morning everyone, today we will go on learning the useful words and phrases of the text ?The Road to Modern English?. I believe that all of you have a good preparation for the exercise 1 on page 11, yes?)Now I will give you 2 minutes to read the text silently while you are reading pay much attention to the bold words and phrases

(Do you have some difficulties in understanding several new words and phrases in this unit after you looking into the dictionaries after class?If you have, please hand up and we will solve the problems together.) The problems students may have: 1. actually: (1)Teacher makes a context for students: Teacher comes to one student and asks “Can you lend me a pen?” Then teacher purposely returns it to another student, and teacher asks the latter how to tell the pen is not hers by using the word ?actually?. “Actually, the pen is not mine.” (2) Teacher repeats the sentence to emphasize the usage of ?actually?, then asks students to work in groups to practice making short conversations with ?actually?, ask one group to show their work 2. because of 因为,由于& because (1) (teacher acts like a handicapped person, walking with a limp, and says: “I can not walk quickly because I have a lame leg.”) ?Because of my lame leg I can not walk quickly?.(ask students to summarize the difference between because and because of) ?Because? should be followed by a complete sentence while ?because of? just connected with a noun when they are used to

express the reason) 3. identity: (1) Teacher says: “My identity is a teacher” and asks the students “what is your identity?” (2)Teacher shows an ID card to students. Then asks: “Do you know what ID shorts for?”

Stage 2 practice (10min) Since you do not have difficulties in understanding the vocabularies, now please finish the exercise1 as quickly as you can Do a match (divided the students into 2 groups) Now please close you book (I will read the meaning of each word in the exercise one by one, if you know the word please stand up and speak it loudly, one word will earn one score, finally the group which gains more score is the winner) Word puzzle: A. Stage 3 production(2omin) Just now you have done a very good job in knowing the meanings of the vocabularies, do you believe that you can use it properly. Now let do something interesting Step1 Do a role play (12min) ? (Last period we have finished the timeline of the development of English on page10, now I would like you to do a role play by using the vocabularies to describe the development of English. Work in pairs, one student acts as a host of TV program, the other acts as a professor who studies the development of English. The host can ask these following questions: How important English is it today? Is there only one kind of English today? Why has English changed overtime? How were British English and American English settled? ) Step2 Free talk (8min)

? Just now you have used the words to describe the content of the text properly. Now can you use at least 3 words to make a sentence to say something you want in your daily life? Stage 4 expansions (5min) We have learned there are several pairs of words have the same meaning, but one is a British English word and the other is an American English in the warming up part and reading part.
