Jordan 1 Description
1985 was a great year, not only because Michael Jordan was rookie of the year and played in the All-Star g ame, but because the Air Jordan 1's were release
d. MJ With Air Jordan IThe Air Jordan I was the first shoe to be worn in the NBA with multiple colors. Peter Moore was the man behind the Air Jordan 1 (and also h elped design the Air Jordan II). When Michael Jordan first looked at the AJ I, his response was "I'm not wea ring that shoe. I'll look like a clown". With time, the shoe slowly grew on him.
Nike loved this idea so much that they encouraged MJ to wear the shoes, and Nike would pay the fees. In result, Nike gave the the Air Jordan 1 "The shoe banned by the NBA" label. There was 23 different color v ariations released, and this is not including the three colorways of the Air Jordan I KO. Each AJ I shoe cam e with two sets of laces which matched the color combo.
The White/Black-Red and Black/Red Air Jordan 1's were released as "retros" in 1994 right after Jordan anno unced his retirement and sold VERY poorly. So badly that many pairs hit clearance centers for $19.99 or les s (today a brand new pair of these is worth $500+).
In 2001, Nike tried a second round with retroing and the Air Jordan 1 was much more successful. The Air J ordan 1 was retroed in 14 total colorways from 2001-2003.
The Air Jordan 1 is a legendary shoe and is the holy grail of most sneaker collectors because of its history and since it was the first Jordan shoe launched.
Jordan 2 Description
The Air Jordan 2 debuted in the 1986/1987 season featuring a full length air sole and very supportive mids ole. The Air Jordan 2 again stood out from all of the other basketball shoes with a faux lizard skin on the side of the shoe. The Air Jordan 2 also separated itself from all other sneakers since it was made in Italy. T he Jordan 2 was also the only Jordan shoe to not originally be made in black. Successful Sneakers - Succ essful Season Along with great sneakers came great success on the court. While wearing the Jordan 2, Mic hael Jordan scored an average of 37.1 points per game and took his first of seven consecutive scoring titles. Jordan also scored 40 points in 9 straight games during the season and also put 61 up against Atlanta Ha wks. Along with all the buckets came awards. Next to the Air Jordan 2 in his display case, Jordan can place the slam dunk contest trophy, All-Star Game appearance, and was named to first team All-NBA.
Are they that different?! Like the Air Jordan 1, the Air Jordan 2 had a horrible first appearance as a retro. T he Air Jordan 2 was brought back in 1994 and 1995 and sold poorly. From discount racks at Footlocker to t he back row at Ross, these shoes were abundant at pennies on the dollar. Following the trend of all other r e-retros, the Air Jordan 2 was brought back again in its original color White/Black-Red in 2004 and sold quit e well. The Air Jordan 2 was also the first retro Jordans to be made in a limited ? player exclusive? colorwa y that was sold to the public. The Melo Jordan 2? came out in April of 2004 with much success, selling ou s t opening day. The Air Jordan 2 is a pretty tough find for the originals as well as the first retros. Due to its soft midsole, the Air Jordan 2 would crack very easily and either thrown out or demoted to grass cutting stat us. Every now and again a 1995 retro Air Jordan 2 will pop up; however, it is a rare find in brand new con dition. If you are interested in getting a new pair of Air Jordan 2s, visit the Jordan release dates page to sta y current on retro Air Jordan releases.
The Air Jordan 2 made its first debut in 1986, (which was the white/red colorway) and the other three color ways released in 1987. Designer of this model is Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore, (both were dismissed from making any more AJ models after the II). In 1986-87 the Air Jordan II retailed at $105.00. Air Jordan 2 II
The Air Jordan 2 high tops and low tops were very stylish, making them as popular as the AJ I (according to sales). All
Original Air Jordan IIs were made in Italy. Air Jordan 2 II RetroRumor is after the Original Air Jordan 2 model the mold was either destroyed or was stolen. So when the Air Jordan II re-released in 1994-95, Nike had to dissect the Original pair, and when Jordan Brand re-released the AJ 2 once again in 2004, they had to dissect a pair of the 1994-95 retros. On the AJ II their was not a black color way produced, even though sketches and prototypes were put together. One of the most sought out pair of shoes is the Air Jordan II K.O. Very little are in existence, and also very few pictures are floating around.
In 1995 the Air Jordan 2 was re-released in the high top version, as well as the lows. They had a price tag of $105.00 (same as the originals), but just like the Air Jordan I they did not sell well, hitting sales racks for $20. In 2004 the AJ 2 once again made an appearance, with a price tag of $110.00. Also in 2004-2005 the AJ II lows were released, retailing at $100.00.
The Air Jordan II (2) was released in 1986/87.
Michael scored an average 37.1 points per game in the 86-87 season and became the first player since Wilt Chamberlain to top 3,000 points in a season. In November/December he scored 40 points or more in nine straight games. On April 16th he scored a total of 61 points against the Atlanta Hawks setting a new NBA record. Michael also played in the All-Star Game, won the Slam-Dunk Championship, and was named to the All-NBA First Team.
No black leather in Italy? The Air Jordan II was designed by Bruce Kilgore and just as its predecessor (Air Jordan 1 (I)) it showed a great innovative design. The low-tops were very stylish, produced in Italy and were far from the ordinary basketball shoe.
Another retro setback The Air Jordan 2 (II) Low 1995 - White - Red - Black were retroed in 1995 in limited quantities. Just like the Air Jordan 1 (I)? they sold very poorly and were found on discount racks on Footlockers nationwide. s
Jordan 3 Description
The Jordan 3 hit the streets in 1988. To follow up an incredible year the year before, a great pair of Jordan shoes was needed and fulfilled.
Hatfield takes command
The Air Jordan 3 was the first of 14 Air Jordans designed by Tinker Hatfield. The Jordan 3 also carried m ore of Jordan's name on the shoe since the man himself was an active part of the design of the shoe. The shoe was the perfect example of Tinker's skill to blend fashion with function.
A first of many
The Air Jordan 3 broke ground for many different aspects of the Nike Air Jordan shoe line. First, the Air Jo rdan 3 featured the "Jumpman" on the tongue of the shoe. This silhouette of Jordan was to celebrate and c ommemorate his Slam Dunk Contest victory the year before. Every Jordan after the Air Jordan 3 features thi s Jumpman as a focal point of the shoe as well as became the new logo for the Air Jordan line. The Air Jo rdan 3 was also the first to feature a visible air unit. Lastly, the Air Jordan 3 featured elephant print on the upper. Though this material was only used again on 1 other model, it set a standard that the Jordan shoes are as much fashionable as functional. The Air Jordan 3 also is one of the most famous shoes in the Air Jo rdan lineup. On many polls, the Air Jordan 3 finishes as the greatest sneaker of all time.
Nike created a personality ad campaign featuring the Mars Blackmon character who was created and played by famous director and actor Spike Lee. This campaign followed Air Jordan for a couple of years and is defi nitely one of the most appreciated Nike commercial series through all time.
Retro blues and Retro boom
Surprisingly enough, the first time the Air Jordan 3 was retroed in 1994, the shoe had limited success. When the Air Jordan 3 was sold again as a re-retro in 2001, it was a different story. The shoe was released in 4 re-retro colorways including 3 of the original 4 colorways except featuring a Jumpman on the back of the sh oe instead of the famous "Nike Air" symbol.? The Air Jordan 3 set the standard for all Jordan shoes to follo w and is the biggest reason for success of the entire line. If you are interested in getting a new pair of Air Jordan 3s, visit the Jordan release dates page to stay current on retro Air Jordan releases.
1987-1988 was an outstanding year for Michael Jordan performance wise. Air Jordan 3 IIIMj won the Slam Dunk contest, All Star MVP, All-Defensive First Team and Defensive Player of the Year. Through all this success, he was wearing the Air Jordan 3.
Peter Moore (which designed the Air Jordan I and helped on the II) was let go from Nike, as well as Bruce Kilgore. When they had left, Peter and Bruce were trying to convince Michael to leave Nike with them, good thing MJ said no. Air Jordan III 3
Now Nike needed a new designer to make the Air Jordan III. So they went to world famous Tinker Hatfield. His name is known mainly for designing Air Jordan III-XV, and also making a return on the AJ XXs, but Tinker also designed some really nice Nike's as well. Tinker and Michael worked hard, talked to each other on what were good ideas, and what
could "work". Air Jordan III HistoryMichael wanted a lightweight shoe, with a lot of durability. So with the Air Jordan 3 they both decided to make them a Mid top, the first mid top to be seen in the Air Jordan line. On the AJ III model Tinker placed the famous jumpman logo on the back of the shoe, and adding in a "elephant print" on the toe box. Also the IIIs were the first AJ to have a visible air-sole unit.
The inspirations for the AJ III are AJ I and II, the free throw dunk, an elephant, and last, but not least Michael Jordan. Nike's selling strategy was simple, and great, they had MJ and Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee). After watching these funny commercials you had to go out and buy yourself a pair.
In 1987-1988 when the Air Jordan 3s just released they sold for $100.00. In 1994 when Nike re-released the AJ III they retailed at 105.00, but just like the AJ I and II models, they hit sales racks. In 2001 and 2003 when the Air Jordan III released one more time, the price tag was $100.00.
Jordan 4 Description
The Air Jordan 4 took the world by storm in 1989. Along with a career season came a career sneaker.
Tinker Hatfield once again designed this shoe. The Air Jordan 4 featured many new design concepts. First, the straps on the side for increased ankle support. It was nearly impossible for MJ to roll his ankle in these shoes. The Jordan 4 again featured the air sole heel for dded cushioning and a full length midsole. In the White/Black-Cement, the shoe featured a unique texturing nicknamed "Cookies & Cream" for its striking rese mblance. The Air Jordan 4 was another masterpiece to the Jordan lineup.
Mike flies to new heights
While wearing the Air Jordan 4, Michael Jordan reached new points in his career. Taking home another scori ng title with 32.5 points per game, Jordan also appeared in the All-Star Game, First Team NBA, and All-Defe nse. This year was arguably Jordan's best year despite no championship.
It was in the Air Jordan 4's that Jordan made "the shot" which was a series winning shot at the buzzer to a dvance the Bulls to the next round in a do or die situation.
Spike likes Mike
Nike continued the Jordan 4 commercials with Mars Blackmon (Spike Lee) and created the famous Can/Can't TV commercial. Spike Lee really liked these shoes personally and gave them some extra promotion in his movie Do The Right Thing.
A classic scene for all AJ fans is when one of the persons in the movie gets his brand new AJ IV's scuffed by a bicycle rider and flips out about it, places his shoe upon a fire-hydrant and cleans it with a toothbrush. Rent the movie today if you haven't it!
The year was 1989, and Tinker Hatfield was back at his tricks storming up an idea for the Air Jordan 4. How would he top the Air Jordan III? Air Jordan Original 4 IV MilitaryTinker wanted to get further into performance, rather than some other inspiration that was used on the last three models.
The Air Jordan IV was the first in the line that had an over-molded mesh. The reason for this is, the consumer would think the shoe was made cheap. So what Tinker did was dip the mesh in a soft plastic and blew air through it to clear out the plastic in between.
When the Air Jordan 4 was first released in 1989, people disliked the shoe, said it looked very ugly. Overtime the model grew on a lot of people. Another feature of the AJ IVs was the capability to lace your IVs in 18 different patterns. This gave your IVs your own style. Air Jordan 4 Fire RedThe overall personality of the Air Jordan 4 was saying "get back to work". Michael was a father and husband for the first time in his life, and since the Air Jordan III was such a luxurious model, MJ and Tinker wanted to bring back to the original draw board.
When the AJ IVs were first released in 1989 they retailed at $110.00. In 1999-2000 when the IVs made another appearance they sold for $100.00,
also in 2004 they retailed for $110.00. In 2005 Air Jordan did a collaboration with Undftd, auctioning off the shoes between $1500.00 to $2600.00. Also a AJ 4 Laser package was released with a t-shirt and hat that retailed for $200.00, and later that year Jordan Brand released a black color way of the laser IVs that retailed for $175.00. In 2006 a pair of "Rare Air" IVs released with a price tag of $125.00.
Jordan 5 Description
The Air Jordan 5 was released in February 1990. Four models of the Air Jordan V was released to the public. Original Air Jordan 5 V Grapes Two models which are the Black/Black-Metallic Silver and White/Fire Red-Black had MJs number "23" on the side. Limited to only 100 pairs each, and were given to unfortunate kids or auctioned off as charity.
The Air Jordan V was the first in the Air Jordan line to have a clear rubber sole. Tinker Hatfield also designed the Nike Marty MacFly? featured in the movie Back to the Future II, they had clear molding which allowed light to come s through, and that is were Tinker got the idea from.
Air Jordan Retro 5 V Also the AJ 5 was the first time anyone had ever molded foam into a shoe upper.
When you look at the AJ V besides the icey soles, what else do you notice? What I notice is the flames on the side. Tinker came to the conclusion that the way Michael performed was "like a Fighter Plane". When the AJ 5 was designed, the inspiration was "grey nurse shark" or Super marine Spitfire MkVIII, which is a World War II British fighter plane. To add to the finishing touches of the shoe, Tinker added a reflective 3M tongue with Jumpman embroidery.
When the Air Jordan 5 first came out in 1990 they retailed for $125.00. In 2000 when the AJ V made its second appearance they sold for $120.00. 2006 Jordan Brand will re-release the Air Jordan V once again, but this time with a $135.00 price tag.
The Air Jordan 5 was released in 1990 and once again featured innovative and creative designs and features. New Coach, Higher Hopes? Phil Jackson replaced Doug Collins as head coach of the Bulls in the 1989-90 season. This year was the best record that the Bulls since Jordan joined the team as well as a franchise best record at 55-27. Jordan also hit his personal best when he hit 69 points again Cleveland. Jordan also hit 92 three-pointers compared to only 68 in all of the prior seasons combined! Jordan again took home the scoring title, All-Star, First Team, and All-Defense. High Flying Design The Air Jordan 5 featured a unique style cooked up by Tinker Hatfield. The Air Jordan 5 was inspired by the WW2 Mustang fighter plane. The most obvious element of the inspiration is the shark teeth shapes on the midsole of the
shoe. The Air Jordan 5 also was the first Jordan shoe to have a clear sole. This not only added a nice look to the Air Jordan 5, but provided far better traction. The Air Jordan 5 also featured an iridescent reflective tongue and lacelocks.
Jordan 6 Description
What makes the Air Jordan VI so remarkable? Could it be that the AJ 6 was worn during MJs first NBA title? Air Jordan VI 6Or could it be he won his first NBA Finals MVP? Maybe it is the material, or design of the Air Jordan VI. Which ever it may be, this is one shoe to remember.
On the Air Jordan 6 Michael Jordan gave direct orders to have a clean toe, so Tinker Hatfield made sure the Air Jordan VI had a reinforcement around the toe, making the AJ VI the first basketball model to obtain this. MJ had problems putting on the past five models,
Original Air Jordan 6 VIso Tinker designed two holes on the top of the tongue, and one loop on the back, calling it "a spoiler".
The Air Jordan 6 was the second model to have the clear rubber sole. When the Air Jordan V was released a lot of people complained that their children were falling because the soles would collect dust that was on the court, making the sole slippery. Now on the Air Jordan VI Tinker added a more solid rubber, so this problem would not happen again.
Michael wanted the heel tab positioned so it did not hit his Achilles tendon, making the Jordan 6 the first shoe to have any sort of molded structure on the back. The last touch Tinker gave was incorporated the number "23" on the design of the shoe. When the original Air Jordan VI came out in 1991 there were five color way models retailing for $125.00. In 2000 three models were re-released of the Air Jordan 6, selling for $120.00, and in 2002 three low top versions came out which sold for $105.00. In 2005 Jordan Brand released a DMP which stands for "Defining Moments Package", which consisted of the Air Jordan VI and XI. Retail is $295.00.
The Air Jordan 6 was released for the 1990-91 season. This season and this shoe was part of a defining moment for Michael Jordan and all of the Air Jordans.
Championship at last!
Every year the Jordan had played was a great one, but this year was just a little sweeter for Mike. The Bulls won the NBA Championship defeating the LA Laker's in the Finals. Jordan again took home the NBA scoring title and his 2nd of 5 MVP awards.
What is there to say else than Hatfield created another classic. This time with a rubber tounge featuring two holes which the bearer could use to easily get the kicks on. He kept the idea with clear rubber soles and lace locks from the Air Jordan 5's but apart from that this felt like a brand new AJ design for the Air Jordan 6.
Retro or a butchered classic?
Right before the retro release of the black/black-infra-red Air Jordan 6, pictures were published on webpages where it showed that they had reversed the midsole colors so that the red was now black and vice versa. This upset a whole lot of collectors and the word "butchered" was what would define this way of "destroying" the classic Air Jordan 6. Nike kept their ears to the street and made the Air Jordan 6 just like the original keeping their followers happy. There are several sample pairs of the "butchered" Air Jordan 6 floating around the sneaker collecting community, however, don't expect to get these for any less than $500.The Retro Air Jordan 6 was the first retro Jordan shoe to be made in an olympic colorway. For the Sydney 2000 games, an Olympic colorway was made in limited numbers of 3000 pairs. Today, 6 years later, many Jordan collectors estimate that the number of deadstock pairs of the Olympic Air Jordan 6 is less than 150 or 200 pairs.
Jordan 7 Description
Tinker Hatfield could be inspired by anything when it comes to the Air Jordan line. Air Jordan VII HistoryOn the Air Jordan 7 when Tinker was in Portland, he saw a poster that was African art, influenced by an Afropop Worldwide. The person in the poster was playing a guitar shaped like Africa. Around the time when Tinker was ready to design the Air Jordan VII Michael sat down with him and mentioned that he wanted the shoe to "stay young and interesting, while remaining sophisticated". Air Jordan VII History
Tinker had now went inside the store and asked to purchase the poster, but the owner did not want to sell it because he was advertising a radio show and the Afropop music. Tinker had now told him he worked on the design of the Air Jordan line. The store owner decided to sell the poster to him for $15. All the lines on the Air Jordan 7 were influenced by Western African tribal patterns, which were on the poster. The Air Jordan VII was also worn by Michael Jordan in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Nike had made a special "Olympic" color way, and instead of the number "23" there was 9 on the back.
In 1992 Nike had released five color ways of the Air Jordan 7. They sold for $125.00 each. In 2002 two more models came out retailing at $125.00. In 2004 the Olympic VIIs came out and sold for $130.00. Now in 2006 four models released which sold for $135.00, and one women's model sold for $130.00.
The Air Jordan 7 was worn by Mike in the 1991-92 season as well as the gold-medal winning Barcelona Olympic Games. As Good As It Gets While wearing the Air Jordan 7's, Michael Jordan won his third MVP award, second NBA championship, and the NBA scoring title. On top of that, Jordan took home his second Olympic Gold Medal when the Dream Team of ? crushed 92 the international competition including a 116-48 rout over Angola. Unique Features The Air Jordan 7 is a very unique shoe in the Jordan line as well as a basketball shoe. The Air Jordan 7 featured Huarache technology which made the shoe really stick to your foot. The shoe was much lighter weight than some of the previous Air Jordans as well. The Air Jordan 7 was also unique in that it did not feature the ? Nike Air? logo, a visible air unit, or clear soles.
Jordan 8 Description
The Air Jordan 8 was released during the 1992-93 ? Three-Peat? Championship season. The Air Jordan 8 was the last Air Jordan shoe that Jordan wore before retiring the first time. The Bulls and Jordan won their third consecutive NBA title. Jordan himself got his seventh straight scoring title and reached a milestone in his NBA career when scoring his 20,000th point. Hot and heavy The Air Jordan 8 was one heavy beast. Its base was clearly close to its predecessor but it had a lot more details, color and accents. It had cross-over velcro/leather straps and was so padded your foot got surprised.
Due to the thick padding the shoe was heavy and also easily got very warm. Many ponder that the heat could have been the reason why Michael was bothered with athlete? foot infections during the season. s Retro Boom The Air Jordan 8 was first retroed in 2003. Nike kept it short and sweet with the Air Jordan 8 retro release. There were only 4 colorways released in total with two mids and two lows. The Air Jordan 8 retros were one of the most anticipated retros ever released.
TiTinker Hatfield wanted the Air Jordan 8 to not feature a Nike sign. He thought the Jordan Brand was strong enough at this point to hold its own. Tinker brought up to Nike that the Jordan line was strong enough to start eliminating the Nike sign at the AJ VI. After Tinker was done telling his story, Nike pretty much laughed in his face.
It took a lot of time, and a lot of convincing to make this happen, but it finally went through. If you look at the Original Air Jordan VIII model you will notice there is no Nike sign.
The Air Jordan VIII started a lot of talk through sneaker heads, basketball players, or people that enjoyed a pair of Nike's. The design was crazy, the AJ 8 also had a polycarbonate torsion plate, and to top it all off, the color ways blew people away. Air Jordan VIII History
A sad feature about the Air Jordan VIII was they were not as comfortable as other Air Jordan models. Air Jordan VIII HistoryThe straps (also called bunny ears) would make the shoe tight on the sides, so people with wide feet had a hard time wearing them. What the Air Jordan 8 did have going for it is: durabuck uppers, Air sole, Huarache inner sleeve and anti-inversion cross-straps (aka bunny ears).
In 1993 the Original Air Jordan VIII released in three color ways. The Color schemes were White/Black-True Red, Black/Bright Concord-Aqua Tone and Black-Black-True Red. They sold for $125.00. When 2003 came, Jordan Brand released two more models of the Air Jordan 8 selling for $135.00, also two low cut versions of the AJ VIII were released and sold for $110.00.
Jordan 9 Description
In 1992-1993 when Tinker Hatfield and Nike started working on the Air Jordan 9, Michael Jordan was in Asia to promote for Nike.
Air Jordan IX HistoryTinker was really influenced by Japanese design. There is a lot of features on the shoe that you may not know which came from the Japanese culture.
Here is a comment from Tinker on the Air Jordan IX: "The Air Jordan IX represented the globalization of the Air Jordan brand name. Everybody around the world wanted to be like Mike. Take a close look at the soles of the shoes, we designed the different languages around the world that describes the sporting spirit of Michael Jordan and what he has done for the world of sports.
Jordan 10 Description
Michael Jordan was now away from the game of basketball, and he began a relatively short lived career in baseball. Air Jordan X HistoryMany people thought the Air Jordan line was done, even Nike, but Tinker Hatfield had a different thought.
The Air Jordan 10 was the first model that Michael Jordan did not approve, he had talked to Tinker at the beginning stages of development, but nothing was set in stone. The quality of the shoe was up to par with huarache inner sleeve, leather uppers and quick lace system, but something was not right with them.
When the Air Jordan X was released, a lot of the models had a strap of leather going across the top of the toe, but then Nike came out with a clean-toed version (just how Michael liked his shoes). When Michael returned to the NBA he did wear the Jordan 10, with his new number "45" on the side. In 1994 when the original release of the Air Jordan 10 came out, a total of three models released, and a regional pack which had five different color ways representing five selected teams. Those lucky teams are ? Sacramento Kings, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Seattle Supersonics and the Chicago Bulls, and a pair of Air Jordan X cleats were released, all retailing at $125.00. When 2005 hit Jordan Brand knew it was time to re-release the Air Jordan X, so they sold for $125.00 and a total of 7 color ways and two of them were for women.
The Air Jordan 10 was released in 1994-95 despite Jordan? absense from the NBA. The Air Jordan 10 featured a s
different shape than the previous Jordan shoes did. Not everyone plays like Mike Too bad for Mike (but good for all of his followers), baseball went on strike thus leaving Jordan hanging with nothing to do - that is if he didn? return to the NBA. Sure enough, Jordan shocked everyone when he returned from retirement t on March 19, 1995. Since his jersey had been retired, he had to go back onto the court wearing #45 until the technicalities were cleared out of the way.
Jordan 11 Description
The Air Jordan 11 are loved by many sneaker enthusiasts and are always a sell out. Air Jordan XI HistoryMichael Jordan was now back in the NBA, and the Air Jordan XI was his shoe for the 1995-1996 season. But before Michael Jordan wore the model, Tinker had to design them.
Tinker Hatfield thought that Nike should pull out all the stops and make a shoe out of materials that had never been used in a basketball shoe. At first, Tinker was thinking of using some high-end nylons, but good thing he changed his mind. Tinker wanted the Air Jordan 11 to look like a convertible, with a shiny body, so that is why the Air Jordan XI had patent leather.
Not only was it the patent leather on the Air Jordan XI made them special, but the addition of a lightweight Phylon midsole with a full-length Air-Sole unit and full-length carbon fiber plate, as well as being supportive. But sadly, there were some defects in them. Air Jordan XI History
For the look of the shoe itself, Tinker was (like always) thinking of some inspirations. If you're an artist, then anything can inspire you, so when Tinker saw a yellow lawn mower you wonder how he fit that into the Jordan 11. According to Tinker: Air Jordan XI History"There are designers out there designing lawn mowers to look like sports cars.".In 1995-96 playoffs, Michael had a bad spill wearing the AJ XI, and the reason being is poor traction. Also the midsole would get creases very fast.
When the Air Jordan 11 came out in 1995 they sold for $124.99. Three mids were released, and two I.E. lows (which sold for $115.00). Only five pairs of the Air Jordan XI "Space Jams" were made for Michael, for the movie Space Jam. Five colorways re-released in 2001-2002 going for $125.00. Eight Air Jordan XI lows were released in 2001 which sold for $120.00, and two I.E. lows were released in 2003 $119.00. In 2006, a Defining Moments Package was released
which contained the Air Jordan XI and Air Jordan VI.
The legendary Air Jordan 11 was first released for for 1995-96 season. The Air Jordan 11 are the most famous and most popular model of the Air Jordan line.
Back With Aggression!
Jordan was back for real and he led the Bulls to yet another NBA victory. He also became the second man to ever win Most Valuable Player awards for the regular season, All-Star Game and NBA Finals in the same season. Jordan averaged 30.4 points per game and scored 40 or more points in nine games while wearing the Air Jordan 11's. What a come back!
Triple Come Back
If Jordan was back, so was Tinker Hatfield. A terrific design with a new patent leather and the return of the clear rubber sole made the Air Jordan 11 the most appreciated Air Jordan model ever released.
But when the design stunned everyone, the durability and quality was disappointing. Again the clear rubber soles easily yellowed and the patent leather also tended to crack up and/or easily get scratched. Top design - lacking quality.
With the Air Jordan 11 we also saw the return of low-tops. Something that would follow the Air Jordan's all the way to the Jordan 21s (though skipping the OG Jordan 12's).
Jordan 12 Description
A new year means a new shoe design from Nike and Air Jordan. Nike Basketball was heading into a different direction with foamposite, shox, and big air bubbles in shoes. What can the Air Jordan 12 do to compete? Believe it or not the AJ XII got started with a woman's fashion shoe from the 19th century called "Nisshoki". Michael is big on fashion, and he knows women have a lot of it. He did not care if you made fun of him for wearing a women's wrist band or something else feminine. Air Jordan XII History
On the Air Jordan 12 there was more than just the women's high heel for inspiration, but also the Japanese Rising Sun flag played a big role in the making. Air Jordan XII HistoryThe stitching down the sides resemble sun rays. If you look at past Air Jordan sneakers, you will notice the famous "23" located somewhere on the model. On the Air Jordan 12 Michael wanted a different look with his number 23. So an idea came to Michael Jordan to have 23 written down the tongue, written like this: Two 3.
A lot of good qualities were on the Air Jordan XII, for example they had the Zoom Air unit (also the first Air Jordan to have a Zoom air unit), modified herringbone pattern for improved traction and a more improved carbon fiber shank plate.Air Jordan XII History
When the Air Jordan 12 first released in 1996 they sold for $135.00, and five different color ways were released. In 2003 two color ways released selling for $135.00, and a pair of Air Jordan XII cleats released. A couple months later an Air Jordan XII package was sold which came with the Air Jordan XII, hoody and hat which sold for $200 (online only). 2004 was now here and four color ways came out of the Air Jordan XII, which went for $135.00, and three AJ XII lows dropped selling for $115.00.
The Air Jordan 12 was released in 1996-97 and were the first Air Jordan shoes in the Jordan Brand line. In this season, Jordan lost the MVP by the narrowest margin in NBA history to Karl Malone as he helped lead his Jazz to the NBA Finals only to fall to Jordan and the Bulls. Jordan wore the Air Jordan 12? while he took home his fifth s NBA title and fifth NBA Finals MVP. Love for Japan The Air Jordan 12 featured something very unique in terms of design. The Air Jordan 12 upper was stitched to resemble the Japanese Rising Sun flag. The Air Jordan 12 also was the most durable shoes out of the whole Jordan shoe series. In addition to this, the Air Jordan 12 provides the most ankle support which was great for keeping Jordan on the floor for the whole season.
Jordan 13 Description
When the Air Jordan 13 was being thought up, Michael and Air Jordan XIII 13Tinker Hatfield did not have a meeting before they drew up designs. Tinker had an idea. If you've ever watched Michael play then you would see the
resemblance between him and a panther. Michael Jordan would watch his players, and all of a sudden he would make the move, and before you knew what happened Michael had the ball.
Tinker later met with Michael and told him that he looked like a black cat, or panther. Funny thing was, between Michael and his friends, his nickname is "black cat", for all the reasons Tinker said: he would read his player, and strike like a panther.
Air Jordan XIII Black/Red
The sole of the Air Jordan 13 is one of the most unique soles ever released in the Jordan line. If you get a chance to look at the sole of them you will see a huge resemblance with a panthers paw.
By the heel of the Air Jordan 13 was a circle hologram. If you look close you will see the number 23, a basketball, and the Jumpman logo. A downfall of the hologram is they can get fogged up over time. Also over time the soles that are white will bleed (happens just about every time on the Original Air Jordan XIII).
The Air Jordan 13 was released in 1997-98 which was the last season that Jordan played for the Bulls. While wearing the Air Jordan 13's Jordan broke Karemm Abdul-Jabbar's NBA record by scoring double-digits for the 788th consecutive game. Jordan also led the bulls to the franchise? sixth NBA Championship Title. Jordan took s home his sixth ring along with his sixth Final MVP honor. Panther Paws Tinker Hatfield was the mastermind behind the genius design of the Air Jordan 13. The Air Jordan 13 is regarded as the best designed Jordan shoe by a large percentage of Jordan sneaker fans. The Air Jordan 13 was the first and only Jordan shoes to feature a hologram. The outsole received inspiration from the paws of a Panther. Jordan? nickname s on the court from fellow NBA players was ? Black Cat? for his fast reflexes and speed down the court.
Jordan 14 Description
The Air Jordan 14 has room in every ones hearts. Maybe not by the looks, but the Air Jordan XIV was the last model Air Jordan Michael Jordan wore in a Chicago Bulls jersey. Air Jordan XIV (14) History
At the time Michael owned a Ferrari F355F1. The design of the Ferrari F355F1 looks exactly like the shield on the Air Jordan XIV, and the vents on the side of the Ferrari F355F1 were also used on the Air Jordan XIV.
The Air Jordan 14 was the first to have silver tips on the laces, which also had a Jumpman logo. Each pair had a total of seven jumpman logo's, which together equals out to fourteen (XIV). Original Air Jordan XIV (14)Low profile Zoom Air Units were located at the forefoot and heel. If your feet sweat while you play, then the vent on the side should help out.
With all the good qualities of the Air Jordan XIV you might think nothing could go wrong with them, but sadly there are a couple minor flaws. The toe box area would come unglued over time. Also the teeth on the sides (phylon midsole) would crease very quickly.
The Air Jordan 14 was released in 1998-99, but one famous pair got on Jordan? feet just in time before his retirement s (Part 2). On January 13, 1999 Jordan announced his retirement from the NBA for the second and what was supposed to be the final time. The NBA players union started a lockout on June 30, 1998 just a few weeks after Jordan won his sixth championship. Many speculate that the strike was too much for Michael to handle as he was one who just wanted to play basketball and not politics.
Jordan 15 Description
The Air Jordan 15 was released in 1999-2000 but was never worn by Jordan himself in an NBA game.
This was the first Jordan shoe after Jordan's retirement. Many wondered whether or not Jordan Brand would continue to release shoes despite Jordan's absence from the NBA. The shoes did not sell too well to put it politely, though, many doubt that the Air Jordan 15's being on Jordan's feet would have made much of a difference.
Since Michael Jordan retired once again, people started saying that the Air Jordan line should be discontinued. But of course, Tinker Hatfield, Micahel and the other designers thought otherwise. Air Jordan XV HistoryIt was time to look for inspirations, something different, something not previously used on another shoe.
So the idea of the Air Jordan 15 would be to pay respect to Michael and his years in the NBA. The X-15 fighter plane came into mind at the moment. This plane broke the speed records, and set its own at 4,502 miles per hour. The X-15 is the best there ever was, just like Michael.
Air Jordan XV HistoryRumor also has it that the tongue on the Air Jordan XV is inspired by Michael Jordan, since he always sticks his tongue out when he goes for a dunk, shot, or layup.
Some nice features of the Air Jordan XV are the hidden quick-lace system, seamless dynamic-fit sleeve, Kevlar mesh uppers, Zoom Air sole, rubber herringbone pods, injected TPR external heel counter, and a breathable leather pattern. So the question is, how would the Air Jordan XV do with the consumers?
Sadly, the high expectations for the Jordan 15 to sell well were not met. The Air Jordan XV is disliked by many (and most likely the most hated Air Jordan). The quality of them was terrible, the inner sleeve was too loose, and very uncomfortable.
Jordan 16 Description
Wilson Smith III stepped in to be head designer of the Air Jordan 16. Air Jordan XVI HistoryWilson's plan with the XVI was to add all of the main elements from the past Air Jordan models into one. Notice the patent leather on the toe box (Air Jordan XI), ribbed leather gaiter (Air Jordan XIV), 3/4 mid cut (Air Jordan III), mesh uppers (Air Jordan V) and clear rubber soles (Air Jordan V, VI, XI).
The return of the patent leather gave the Air Jordan 16 a dress look, which people wore with tuxedos (same on the Air Jordan XI), but of course the Air Jordan XVI was not as popular as the Air Jordan XI. Air Jordan XVI History
The Air Jordan XVI is the first model in the line to have a gaiter or shroud. The gaiter is removable, which made them look like a brand new shoe. Air Jordan XVI HistoryA downfall about the gaiter is that when worn during a basketball game, they could fall off. Also the Air Jordan XVI is a tight fit with the gaiter's on. The Air Jordan 16 is very lightweight, but was stiff. Don't get me wrong though, the Air Jordan XVI had great quality's like a blow-molded Air unit in the heel, Zoom Air in the forefoot, thermal properties, breathable ballistic mesh upper and patent leather.
When the Air Jordan 16 first hit shelves in 2001, retail was $160.00, and a total of four color ways were released. Also two low models released at $135.00. A lot of Samples and Player Exclusive were also issued as well.
The Air Jordan 16 was released on February 17, 2001 - Jordan's 38th birthday. This shoe was the first to not be designed by Tinker Hatfield in over a decade, yet it brought together the best pieces of shoes Tinker designed.
The Air Jordan 16's hit the shelves following the successful (though ugly) Air Jordan 15. Jordan Brand found that Jordan didn't need to wear the shoes in the NBA to be on the hot list of every other American teenager.
Jordan 17 Description
Michael Jordan was President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards. When the 2001-2002 season came, Michael resigned his position as President of Basketball Operations, but signed a player contract. Guess who's back? Air Jordan XVII History
Wilson Smith III designed the Air Jordan 17. Around the time sketching was started, Michael signed Michael Phillips the musician. So one key element to the Air Jordan XVII was from Jazz music. If you look on them you will notice molded in jazz notes. Also, inspirations for the shoe once again came from a car, this time being an Aston Martin. Air Jordan XVII HistoryThe soles were said to come from a golf course Michael played at.
The Air Jordan XVII were nicely made, and they came equipped with a removable mid-foot strap, Zoom Air sole, dynamic-fit sleeve, hidden quick lace system, lace-locks, leather uppers and carbon-fiber sheath.
When you purchased the Air Jordan 17, you got a nice metal carrying case and a CD. The price tag on the Air Jordan XVII had most people in shock, $200.00! The highest ever for a pair of Air Jordans.
The Air Jordan 17 was released February 9, 2002. This was the first shoe released since Jordan's 2nd return to the NBA playing for the Washington Wizards. The first color to release matched their jersey. Jordan is BACK! For a while, those who talked about a 3rd coming of Jordan were thought to be as crazy as the people who think Elvis, Tupac, and Biggie are still alive. Jordan proved all the skeptics wrong on September 25, 2001 when he announced he would return to the NBA and suit up as a Washington Wizard. Keeping the Cover The Air Jordan 17 design was said to be inspired by three things; ? the fine details from an Aston Martin, the smooth lines and flow of a jazz solo and the long Air Jordan history of innovations in style?Well, if the Air Jordan 16's were equipped with a gaiter/shroud that was removable and that would cover almost more than half of the shoe, the Air Jordan 17's were no worse. With a removable midfoot cover you were once again given the power to choose whether or not the laces should be visible! Metal and CD But the midfoot cover was not everything. The Air Jordan 17 came with a Jumpman embossed metal carrying case. So, this was not your average shoe box.
Jordan 18 Description
Tate Kuerbis was head designer of the Air Jordan 18. Tate was a part of Nike since 1995 and Jordan Brand since 1999. So designing shoes was nothing new to Tate.
Air Jordan XVIII HistoryInspirations can be seen from different places on the Air Jordan XVIII, for example the "rubber heel wrap" idea came from race car driving shoes, the Carbon fiber-based monocoque (F1 race cars), and the bold stitching came from Italian dress shoes, but the overall outlook was from the automobile world (one of Michael's adorations).
The Air Jordan 18 did not come with a fancy carrying case, or CD (which many of us enjoyed), but they did come with a nice slide out box, towel, brush, and an "Air Jordan XVIII Driver's Manual" pamphlet. Air Jordan XVIII History
Like always with the newest Air Jordan to release, Jordan Brand wanted to bring out the latest in technology. The Air Jordan XVIII contained air vents, carbon comfort plate, Air Jordan XVIII Historyhidden quick lace system, suede leather uppers and zoom air sole. Since the uppers were made out of suede, they did attract a lot of dust, dirt marks and scuffs. Also the soles and mid sole were made of rubber, and just like the Air Jordan V they collect dust, which can make someone slip and fall. If you played in an indoor gym, you were OK.
On the Air Jordan XVI and XVII, Jordan Brand would use the "+" for a modified model. The Air Jordan XVIII used a XVIII.5 or 18.5, which ever way you wanted to write them. Pretty much nothing changed except the removal of the cover, and the jumpman was now on the side of the shoe, also the date 1985-2003 was put on.
The Air Jordan 18 was released in 2003 and was the shoe for Jordan? last season (part 3). s Jordan played for the Washington Wizards, but his knees didn? hold up for all of the games. Jordan returned towards t the end of the season and ended his career on April 16, 2003 in a loss against the 76ers. Though many would love to see Jordan back yet again, its pretty safe to say that Jordan has retired? good. for
Jordan 19 Description
Tate Kuerbis is back to design the Air Jordan 19, but he is not alone. With Tate is Jason Mayden, Wilson Smith, Josh Heard, and Suzette Henri. The new steps taken in the design of the Air Jordan XIX would need them all. Air Jordan XIX (19) History
Inspiration for the Air Jordan 19 came from the deadliest snake in the world, the black mamba. When the black mamba feels threatened, it raises its body up in the air, shows its fangs, and makes a loud hissing sound. That alone intimidated many, does that sound like a familiar someone?Never before seen on a basketball shoe was a material called tech-flex. Air Jordan XIX (19) HistoryThis material is used in the automobile industry. Tech-flex is a material which can stretch, and since it is used on the Air Jordan XIX it gave your foot the comfort you need.
Some great qualities of the Air Jordan XIX is a carbon fiber shank plate, phylon midsole, full-length zoom air unit, patent leather toe box, tech-flex upper, Velcro heel strap and plastic lace-locks.
The Air Jordan 19 box was unique, and when you opened the box, it kind of broke from the middle, instead of the normal open from the top or side. Each shoe is in a Air Jordan net bag.
On the Air Jordan XVI XVII, modified models came as "+", and on the Air Jordan XVIII modified models came as XVIII.5 or 18.5. Now on the Air Jordan XIX modified models came as SE (which stands for Special Edition).
The Air Jordan 19 was released in 2004. The Air Jordan 19 was produced in many Player Exclusive colorways for NBA stars like Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Carmelo Anthony, and Ray Allen. The Air Jordan 19 is the lightest and most supportive Air Jordan shoe to date and features an ultimate combination sport and style.
Jordan 20 Description
The Air Jordan 20 would launch in 2005, which means it was Nike and Jordan Brand's 20th anniversary. Tinker Hatfield had not designed for Jordan Brand since the Air Jordan XV, but it was Gentry Humphries' (Footwear Business Director) idea to have him design the Air Jordan XX. It took Tinker about five seconds before he responded with a yes. Air Jordan XX History
Inspirations for the Air Jordan 20 came from custom trumpets, motorcycle tires and racing boots. David Monette, who designs custom trumpets and engraves designs (better known as lasering) was the cause of the Air Jordan XX for having the lasering on the mid foot strap. Mark Smith (Nike's laser expert) came to design the midfoot strap. Air Jordan XX 20 StealthsNow if you look close on the mid foot strap on the AJ XX you will notice symbols. Each symbol represents an experience MJ has had in his life. Here is some examples of what was on the shoe, and reasons for them:
1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo ? Michael sitting in the back seat represented with his mom (Deloris), bringing him along to her office when Michael was grounded. The Bus Driver cap with golf clubs crossed ? When you played a game with Michael in golf and you lost, you had to wear a bus driver cap on the walk back from the clubhouse. Toolbox with the word POPs ? This symbol was for the late and great James Jordan (Michael's Father R.I.P.), who could fix almost anything around the house. 44DT ? For Hall of Fame David "Skywalker" Thompson, who Michael looked up to in the mid 1970's.
The Air Jordan 20 was released on February 19, 2005. The Air Jordan 20 celebrated the 20th model and 20th year of Air Jordan shoes as well as Jordan? legacy on and off the court. s Tinker's Back! Tinker Hatfield was brought back to do what he does best - create the BEST Air Jordan shoes. The most noticeable feature of the Jordan 20 is the laser etched design on the lace cover depicting various past achievements of Michael Jordan and Air Jordans.
Jordan 21 Description
Jordan Brand went with designer D'Wayne Edwards for the Air Jordan 21. The design of the Air Jordan XXI is very simple compared to the other Air Jordan models. But like always, the Air Jordan XXI was full of high tech materials.
With each year gone by, it is less likely that we will see Michael Jordan back in the NBA (sorry, I hate to break the news). Knowing this, the Air Jordan XXI was best described as being the DNA of a champion. Air Jordan XXI History
Nothing new as far as inspirations go on the Air Jordan 21, which came from a Bentley Continental GT coupe (another car). The front of the Air Jordan XXI is said to look like the grill on the Bentley.
The box that came with the Air Jordan XXI was nice. When opened, Air Jordan XXI Historythere are two separate compartments for each shoe. Also, the shoes came with a bag that can hold your air Pods.
Here is information released from Jordan Brand on technology, and the profile on the Air Jordan XXI:
Upper: Combination of luxurious Italian suedes with rich full-grain leathers. Forefoot breathability features are combined with a newly engineered durable textile for support and durability in key performance areas. Extended heel counter construction provides extended ankle support. Newly foam-backed quilted collar complements the seamless booty construction to provide maximum comfort. Breathable mesh is brought to the tongue to dissipate heat, while the adjustable tongue cover flips up to expose the breathable technology, or flips down for a more sophisticated look.
Mid sole : Fully-double lasted phylon mid sole provide a low-profile stance. Evolution of the I.P.S (Independent Podular Suspension) now includes interchangeable cushioning technology with a customizable heel zoom pillar or heel encapsulated pillar. Carbon fiber shank plate offers mid foot and arch support. Air Jordan XXI History
Out Sole : New I.P.S. technology is integrated with the out sole through raised herringbone pods for traction in strategic performance areas. New innovative out sole pattern offers multi directional traction.
Profile : The future is now. The next generation of the greatest performance basketball shoe designed for the greatest player to ever play the game. The Air Jordan 21 shoe embodies all the elements: The man, the style, the legend? Michael Jordan.
Jordan 22 Description
The Air Jordan 22 was inspired by F-22 Raptor Strike Fighter, when you look at the F-22 Raptor you see the light camo spots sharp aerodynamic cuts that can cut through the air like ice. Some of the characteristics of the F-22 can be seen on the Air Jordan 22.
Jordan Brand has used the Independent Podular Suspension (IPS) on the Air Jordan XX1 and with the success they have also Air Jordan XX2 Sampleused it on the Air Jordan XXII. Unlike the past model using IPS the pods were a little difficult to remove, so on the Air Jordan XX2 the pods are square with a little tongue to pull them out. Also the interchangeable Zoom Air pod is double stacked, which reduces the cushioning hardness.
Early samples of the Air Jordan XX2 had vents on the heel with stitching starting at the heel running almost through the toe box. Samples also had a removable strap, but Michael did not like the look of the strap so this was dropped. The shank plate is made from thermoplastic urethane which is also coated with paint containing metallic titanium.
The Air Jordan 22 is cutting edge from all angles. The Air Jordan XX2 features an innovative design, unbelievable comfort, and powerful performance. Style and Inspiration: Like prior Air Jordans, the design of the Air Jordan 22 was inspired by a work of art off of the court. Previous models were designed after such things as Michael? own Ferrari, the X-15 fighter jet, and even the P-51 Mustang. The Air s Jordan XX2 took inspiration from one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world - the F-22 Raptor. Like Mike, the F-22 Raptor is equally as threatening offensively as defensively. Combine the F-22? speed of 1600 s mph as well as being a stealth jet and you have paralleled qualities Mike had on the court. The design of the upper has sharp lines which takes inspiration from the sharp maneuverability of the F-22 Raptor. The Air Jordan 22 features zig-zag stitching similar to that of the F-22 which helps conceal the jet from enemy radar. On the shoes, this stitching helps provide a well produced shoe with lasting quality. Lastly, one cannot miss the distinct
yet stylish 3M reflective material on the back of the shoe which lights up the court in the lowest level of light.
Jordan 23 Description
The Air Jordan XX3 (Jordan 23) is said to be the last model of the Air Jordan series by many individuals high in Jordan Brand including the head of footwear marketing, Gentry Humphrey. While there was alot of celebration for the 20th year anniversary of? Air Jordans , there is much anticipation for the 23.
Performance wise, the Jordan XX3 is said to be above and beyond that of any other Air Jordan. For the third straight year, the Air Jordan 23 uses IPS (Independent Podular Suspension) Cushioning. For support, a carbon fiber plate extends along the bottom the of sole that modeled of Michael Jordan's thumb print.
Cosmetically, the shoe is as unique as any other Jordan model relative to the rest of the field. Starting at the toe, the toe cap has Michael Jordan's signature embossed. The side of the shoe features a stitched pattern that gives the shoes strength in addition to cosmetic effect. The tongue of the left and right are different for a first time with a Jumpman on the right shoe and "23" on the left. Lastly what starts at the front of the shoe and extends the full length is a glittery glossy panel that covers the midsole body of the sneaker.
The Air Jordan XX3 is one of the most complex and complicated shoes of its time and much research and development went into the shoe to find the perfect look and feel. Here are some of its features seen in the shoe. An automotive quality painting process was used for the backside of the Thermo Plastic Urethane chassis is completed by an efficient robot arm to maximize the quality, consistency and durability of the paint and component. To help out with the environment, the outsole is composed of environmentally preferred materials that reduces the toxins and uses the Nike grind material from footwear outsole manufacturing waste.
One of the most important aspects of the Air Jordan 23 is its exterior and it is composed of many different materials and designs. Air Jordan XX3 (23)For the upper, a newly engineered technique that uses a machine to stitch the upper in 3-D form was implemented into design. A very important aspect of the shoe is its high comfort level; a dual density sock liner offers full comfort while the recovery foam around the heel conforms to foot shapes to create a more custom fit. The reinforced quarter panels from and holds the exact shape and the breathable tongue allows air to escape, which keeps the foot cooler.
The same ingenuity and effort that went into the upper can be seen in the mid-sole/outsole. A full length Zoom Air sole unit was used to provide superior cushioning. Another noticeable feature is how light the shoe feels. Weighing in only at 15 ounces, the lightness of the shoe increases the agility and stability.
Air Jordan 2009 (24)
air jordan 24is also known as air jordan 2009.While the obvious name of the Air Jordan 2009 was a story in and of itself leaving the Air Jordan 1-XX3 series behind, the Jordan 2009 has as much in common as the prior models - a revolutionary design, unparalleled performance and one of a kind style. Michael Jordan collaborated with Jason Mayden, Jordan Brand’s Senior Footwear Designer, to create the Air Jordan 2009. Providing the most elite experience in basketball performance and style, the Air Jordan 2009 stays in line with the franchise’s history, yet the design clearly exhibits a forward-thinking approach. The Air Jordan 2009 incorporates a new, innovative technology in basketball footwear called Articulated Propulsion Technology, or APT.

Air Jordan 2010(25)
The Air Jordan legacy goes the revolutionary route with next year’s Air Jordan 2010. The most obvious distinction is a massive transparent window through the middle of the shoe as a representation of Michael Jordan’s on-court prowess of “seeing through opponents”. The shoe’s collar is also cut disproportionately with the medial side being higher up. The Air Jordan 2010 will release on February 13th, 2010.
BEAVERTON, OR (November 11, 2009) – Today, Jordan Brand, a division of NIKE, Inc., announced the upcoming launch of its 25th anniversary AIR JORDAN 2010 shoe. Celebrating a quarter-century of innovative design and genre-inspiring style, Jordan Brand created the AIR JORDAN 2010 to pay respect to the legacy of Michael Jordan in basketball while passing on the heritage of the sport to the talented Team Jordan athletes, such as Dwyane Wade, who will be the first to debut the AIR JORDAN 2010. “The celebration of the AIR JORDAN 2010 and our 25th anniversary are the pinnacle of a year full of milestones for me,” said Michael Jordan. “With each shoe, consumers have pushed me to take the next AIR JORDAN beyond their wildest imagination. The AIR JORDAN 2010 marks the future of Jordan Brand and proves there are no limits to what this Brand is capable of creating.” Acclaimed shoe designers Tinker Hatfield, Vice President of Special Projects/Design for NIKE and Mark Smith, Creative Director for Jordan Brand, collaborated with Michael Jordan on the AIR JORDAN 2010, taking the literal interpretation of Jordan’s ability to see through his opponents by creating the Brand’s first see-through performance basketball shoe featuring a unique transparent thermoplastic urethane (TPU) window. “The AIR JORDAN 2010 pays homage to Jordan’s ability to know his opponents next move while only giving hints of his ability and allowing the players to only see what he wanted them to see on the court,” said Tinker Hatfield. “His keen instinct for anticipating his challengers’ next move and disguising his own techniques are just a few of the attributes that led to him being named the greatest basketball player ever to play the game.” To assist all basketball players’ game while wearing the shoe, Hatfield and Smith also designed the AIR JORDAN
2010 with a revolutionary new concept to performance basketball footwear – a layered toe construction that has an independent forefoot support cover. This innovative design technique allows the AIR JORDAN 2010 to mimic an actual foot’s flexibility and movement without being restricted by the shoe’s structures, assisting in a player’s ability to be more agile in the game. Since 1984 when Jordan wore the first AIR JORDAN sneaker, AIR JORDAN has become one of the world’s most recognizable franchises known for its signature Jumpman logo, innovative performance technology and fashion-forward style memorializing the sneakers into popular culture history. Jordan Brand has adapted the AIR JORDAN to the changing fashion landscape in its 25 years, utilizing the importance of green technology by making the AIR JORDAN XX3, AIR JORDAN 2009 and now the AIR JORDAN 2010 under Nike’s Considered Design ethos of combining sustainability with performance and innovation.
Air Jordan 2011(26)
As we inch closer and closer to its official release, the highly anticipated Air Jordan 2011 continues to garner a lot of attention and rightfully so. Lately, Dwyane Wade has had a couple of monster games in this new signature, and the “Year of the Rabbit” version released earlier this week exclusively in China.
