Unit 1 lifestyles lesson1 A perfect day?
Step 1: Lead-in
1) Ask students what they have done in the holiday, have they watch too much TV programs, which TV programs they watched for
the most time. Have they stay up late till midnight. 2) Do they think their normal holiday is a perfect day?
Step 2: Pre-reading
1) Ask students to think about why we have a question mark after “a perfect day” 2) Ask students to look at the pictures on the textbook then ask them to answer the following questions: a) What have you seen in these pictures? b) Can any of you describe the following two pictures? 3) Teacher describe the picture in detail 4) Ask students to guess the meaning of key words: coach potato, workaholic.
Step 3: While-reading
1) Fast reading Ask students to read the text quickly, and then ask them to answer the following questions a) What does Brian do for the most of time in a common day? b) What programs does Brian usually watch? c) What kinds of work does Bob do every day? 2) Careful reading 1).Ask students to read the text carefully, and then ask them to list certain issues Brian and Bob do in certain time every day according to the blanks below. Brian Morning Noon Afternoon Evening Night Children’s programs, old movies News Another old film TV series, sport, news More films Urgent matters Personal issues Documents Bob Morning preparation
2). Ask students to think over the question:
a) Why does Brian can live this life style? b) Why does Bob try to work so hard?
Step 4: Post reading
1) Teacher explains the meaning of “You’ve got the world at you feet and in your hand”, then Ask students to look at the pictures again, then ask them to do group discussion to persuade Brian and Bob.(in group of 4) a) If you are the lovely dog of Brian, what do you want to say to your master? If you are Brian’s wife, what you want to say to you husband? b) If you are Bob’s kids or wife, what do you want to say? 2) Ask students to give several useful advice for Brian and Bob.
Step 5: Conclusion
Both Brian and Bob lead an unhealthy lifestyle, Brian’s is too lazy and addicted to relaxation, he chooses to watch too much TV program and he becomes a coach potato. While Bob is addicted to do his work and pay no attention to every other thing including his family. So they are unhealthy and their life should be balanced. All in all, we should alternate work with rest and
love our family members so as to keep a balanced healthy life.
Step 6: Homework
Ask students to write a composition at least 80 words. Students can choose any topic of the followings 1) Describe your normal holiday 2) What’s your opinion about the perfect day in your mind?
