B Rice is an important part of many people's diets. Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Massachusetts have released a report about rice. It shows that eating white rice increases the risk of diabetes(糖尿病). However, eating brown rice reduces the risk of the disease. The World Health Organization says more than two hundred twenty million people worldwide have diabetes. Diabetes results when the body cannot effectively use the sugar it produces. The men and women who took part in the study were asked about their diet and day-to-day activities, as well as
any pre-existing diseases. The study found that the people who ate five or more servings of white rice per week had a seventeen percent increased risk of developing diabetes. But those who ate two or more servings of brown rice a week had an eleven percent reduced risk of getting the disease. Brown rice is the grain in its natural form. White rice results after it has been refined. This involves removing the outer cover, including the husk, bran (糠) and germ. Only the inner white kernel(谷粒) is left. White rice is often enriched to replace some nutrients lost during the refining process. Qi Sun is the leading writer of the report. He says the outer parts of brown rice slow down the work of the body's digestive enzymes (酶) into starch (淀粉). This means that the release of sugar into the bloodstream is slower after eating brown rice compared to white rice. A diet of foods that quickly release sugar into the bloodstream has been linked with a greater risk of diabetes. The exact reason for this is not known. Doctor Sun says less refined grains have more nutritional value than refined grains. He says replacing white rice with whole grains like whole wheat or barley could result in a thirty-six percent lower chance of developing diabetes. However, brown rice does not last as long as white rice because of the oil-rich layer of bran. This makes it less usable in poor communities. 61. This text is organized in the pattern of___________. But we headed out with her around lunchtime to explore on our own. Goteborg is a lovely city, full of nice neighborhoods and parks. In the evening, Therese and Ola cooked us a tasty Swedish meal and we sat around chatting for hours. August 10，Tuesday We had to leave the house at 9：00 am. We caught the train to the ferry station to go to the city, where we ate fast food in order to get some work done. We explored Goteborg a bit more. The evening was full of South and Central American food—pepper, Roasted Garlic, Argentinian wine and mustard.
August 11，Wednesday As always, it was a rush to get out of the house in time, and in our haste we left our beloved coffee machine behind. We caught the train to Stockholm. August l2，Thursday Niklas doesn’t have the Internet at home and we couldn’t really work there, so instead we headed into his office for the morning. We worked hard until lunch and then went to see Stockholm. We met Ulrike, a friend of Niklas’. In the evening, we went for another walk in the forest—it’s so good to be hiking again! August 13，Friday We left Niklas’ place and managed to catch the bus which took us to the city center. Our host Benny met us at the station and took us for a long walk after dinner. For example, too many tourists can crowd public places that are also enjoyed by the inhabitants of a country. If tourists create too much traffic, the inhabitants become annoyed and unhappy. They begin to dislike tourists and to treat them impolitely. They forget how much tourism can help the country's economy. It is important to think about the people of a destination country and how tourism affects them. Tourism should help a country, keep the customs and beauty that attract tourists. Tourism should also advance the wealth and happiness of local inhabitants. Too much tourism can be a problem. If tourism grows too quickly, people must leave other jobs to work in the tourism industry. This means that other parts of the country's economy can suffer. On the other hand, if there is not enough tourism, people can lose jobs. Businesses can also lose money. It costs a great deal of money to build large hotels, airports, air terminals(航空集散站), first-class roads, and other support facilities(配套设施)needed by tourist attractions. For example, a major international class tourism hotel can cost as much as 50 thousand dollars per room to build. If this room is not used most of the time, the owners of the hotel lose money. Building a hotel is just a beginning. There must be many support facilities as well, including roads to get to the hotel, electricity, sewers to handle waste, and water. All of these support facilities cost money. If they are not used because there are not enough tourists, jobs and money are lost.
71. Which of the following do you think has been discussed in the part before this selection? A. It is extremely important to develop tourism. B. Planning is of great importance to tourism. C. Building roads and hotels is essential. D. Support facilities are highly necessary. 72. The underlined word "inhabitants" (in Paragraph 1 ) probably means________. A. tourists. B. passengers. C. citizens(市民). D. population. 73. Too much tourism can cause all these problems EXCEPT________. A. a bad effect on other industries. B. over-crowdedness of places of interest. C. pressure on traffic. D. a change of tourists’ customs. 74. It can he inferred from the text that_________. A. the author doesn't like tourism developing so fast. B. local people will benefit from tourist attraction. C. other parts of a country’s economy won’t benefit from tourism much. D. we can't build too many support facilities. 75. The author thinks it is good for local people to know that tourism will________. A. waste a lot of money. B. help establish their customs. C. help improve their life.
