PREFACE
DEP (Design and Engineering Practice) publications reflect the views, at the time of publication, of Shell Global Solutions International B.V. (Shell GSI) and, in some cases, of other Shell Companies. These views are based on the experience acquired during involvement with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of processing units and facilities. Where deemed appropriate DEPs are based on, or reference international, regional, national and industry standards. The objective is to set the standard for good design and engineering practice to be applied by Shell companies in oil and gas production, oil refining, gas handling, gasification, chemical processing, or any other such facility, and thereby to help achieve maximum technical and economic benefit from standardization. The information set forth in these publications is provided to Shell companies for their consideration and decision to implement. This is of particular importance where DEPs may not cover every requirement or diversity of condition at each locality. The system of DEPs is expected to be sufficiently flexible to allow individual Operating Units to adapt the information set forth in DEPs to their own environment and requirements. When Contractors or Manufacturers/Suppliers use DEPs, they shall be solely responsible for such use, including the quality of their work and the attainment of the required design and engineering standards. In particular, for those requirements not specifically covered, the Principal will typically expect them to follow those design and engineering practices that will achieve at least the same level of integrity as reflected in the DEPs. If in doubt, the Contractor or Manufacturer/Supplier shall, without detracting from his own respons bility, consult the Principal. The right to obtain and to use DEPs is restricted, and is typically granted by Shell GSI (and in some cases by other Shell Companies) under a Service Agreement or a License Agreement. This right is granted primarily to Shell companies and other companies receiving technical advice and services from Shell GSI or another Shell Company. Consequently, three categories of users of DEPs can be distinguished: 1) 2) 3) Operating Units having a Service Agreement with Shell GSI or another Shell Company. The use of DEPs by these Operating Units is subject in all respects to the terms and conditions of the relevant Service Agreement. Other parties who are authorised to use DEPs subject to appropriate contractual arrangements (whether as part of a Service Agreement or otherwise). Contractors/subcontractors and Manufacturers/Suppliers under a contract with users referred to under 1) or 2) which requires that tenders for projects, materials supplied or - generally - work performed on behalf of the said users comply with the relevant standards.

Subject to any particular terms and conditions as may be set forth in specific agreements with users, Shell GSI disclaims any liability of whatsoever nature for any damage (including injury or death) suffered by any company or person whomsoever as a result of or in connection with the use, application or implementation of any DEP, combination of DEPs or any part thereof, even if it is wholly or partly caused by negligence on the part of Shell GSI or other Shell Company. The benefit of this disclaimer shall inure in all respects to Shell GSI and/or any Shell Company, or companies affiliated to these companies, that may issue DEPs or advise or require the use of DEPs. Without prejudice to any specific terms in respect of confidentiality under relevant contractual arrangements, DEPs shall not, without the prior written consent of Shell GSI, be disclosed by users to any company or person whomsoever and the DEPs shall be used exclusively for the purpose for which they have been provided to the user. They shall be returned after use, including any copies which shall only be made by users with the express prior written consent of Shell GSI. The copyright of DEPs vests in Shell Group of companies. Users shall arrange for DEPs to be held in safe custody and Shell GSI may at any time require information satisfactory to them in order to ascertain how users implement this requirement. All administrative queries should be directed to the DEP Administrator in Shell GSI.

PART I INTRODUCTION 1.1 SCOPE This index lists the global technical standards in circulation on the date of issue. In Part II, the current set of standards is listed, organized by engineering discipline. In Part III, the standards are listed in numerical order. Part III also shows standards that have been withdrawn. The Custodian of each standard is also shown in Part III. In addition to DEPs, this index includes other types of global technical standards administered by the Technical Standards Group; see (Part I, 1.2). Standard drawings, standard forms and standard requisitions are not covered in this index, as they are covered in separate indices; see (Part I, 1.3). This index replaces the previous index dated February 2013; see (Part I, 1.8) regarding the main changes. 1.2 DEPS AND OTHER TYPES OF TECHNICAL STANDARDS The DEPs and other technical standards administered by the Technical Standards Group are classified as follows: Classification
DEP-Gen.

Type
DEP(1) Specification

Purpose/Comment
For project use in engineering, procurement and construction. Provides a basis for understanding between the Principal, Contractor and Manufacturer/Supplier, specifying requirements for a product, process or service
(2)

DEP-Informative

A companion document to the DEP Specification of the same number. Explains the reasons for certain requirements in the DEP Specification and contains background information. For Shell use – not intended to be given to Engineering Contractor or Manufacturers/Suppliers. Restricted access within Shell only. Provides a basis for understanding between the Principal, Contractor and Manufacturer/Supplier, specifying requirements for a product, material or process specifically for deepwater installations. For internal Shell use. A temporary document containing run and maintain content formerly in the DEPs that will be moved into the business operating frameworks. Applies to the “operate, inspect and maintain” phase of an asset life.

DWS-Gen.

Deepwater (3) Standard

RMP-Gen.

Run & Maintain (4) Practice

NOTES:

1. Distributed via “Shell DEPs Online”. Distributed under license agreement to authorised Customers and, where necessary, to Shell nominated Contractors and Manufacturers/Suppliers. 2. Distributed for use within Shell and to authorised, select Customers via “Shell DEPs Online”. 3. Restricted access within Shell via the Technical Standards Portal. 4. Access within Shell via the Technical Standards Portal.

Wells Standards have been withdrawn from the DEP sytem and are no longer administered by the Technical Standards Group. In Shell, information on Wells Standards is provided through the following web site: http://sww.shell.com/pt/business units/wells/technical assurance standards/TA.html

DISTRIBUTION OF DEPS Shell companies are provided access to the DEPs through “Shell DEPs Online” at https://www.shelldeps.com. Authorised recipients of the DEPs are entitled to receive the DEPs via configured access to the “Shell DEPs Online” at https://www.shelldeps.com. The authorised company is responsible for providing DEPs to their Contractors and Manufacturers.
NOTE: DEP Informatives are for internal use and are not to be distributed outside of Shell, except under license agreement to authorised select Customers only.

In the past, each version of the DEPs has been released on a separate DVD-ROM. The distribution via DVD-ROM has been discontinued. Current and future releases of the DEPs will be distributed exclusively using the Shell DEPs Online system. 1.5 DISTRIBUTION OF OTHER GLOBAL TECHNICAL STANDARDS Global Technical Standards other than DEPs, as described in (Part I, 1.2), are made available via the Technical Standards web portal at sww.shell.com/standards. Updates to these documents generally coincide with the distribution of the DEPs as described in (Part I, 1.4). Standard Drawings, Standard Forms and Requisitions are distributed via “Shell DEPs Online” in the same manner as DEPs. 1.6 AMENDMENTS For revisions up until DEP version 36 (February 2013), between formal revisions, if an amendment was required to a standard, an Amendment was issued. These Amendments were numbered A0x, where "x" is a sequential number of the amendments for the particular document. Amended standards are indicated in the 2nd column of Part III of this index. 1.7 CUSTODIANSHIP The Custodians responsible for active standards are identified in the 4th column of the numerical index (Part III). 1.8 SUMMARY OF MAIN CHANGES This index is a full revision of the index of the same number dated February 2013. In Part III, changes are indicated by a vertical line (|) in the left margin of the index. The specific changes are shown in red text.
