We Are What We Read Reading is to mind what exercise is to body. If you want to be a kind, diligent, and intelligent person and keep inner peace and happiness, you should develop a habit of r
eading books. The more books you read, the closer you find yourself to the world and the brighter you feel life becomes. Reading benefits us in many ways. First of all, different books give us different knowledge and promote us to grow comprehensively. Histories make us wise; poems witty; mathematics subtle; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend. Some theoretical knowledge make us erudite, while other pragmatic knowledge give guides to our choice and decision. On the contrary, if we do not read any books, we will be ignorant and aimless. As a result, we will lose our courage, confidence and faith in our life and future. Second, as for our postgraduates, reading professional classics not only can strengthen our professional foundations, but also can broaden our view in our major, thus making more valuable progress in our study. Apart from this, reading other classics which we are interested in also can enrich our minds and lives. Third, reading is important to our nation and country. On the one hand, we read books to inherit our fine traditional Chinese
culture from generation to generation. On the other hand, we can learn more from foreign countries by reading their books on science, technology, medical treatment and so on. Therefore, we encourage a love of reading in all people to build a nation of avid readers, expand cultural exchanges with other countries and improve our ability to communicate effectively with international audiences. However, we must keep the following suggestion in our minds. One is that we should grasp the right method to read. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested; that is, some books are to be read only parts; others to be read ,but not curiously; and some few to be read wholly, and diligence and attention. Another is that we should integrate theory with practice, to realize more practical improvements. Reading makes a full man. Reading makes a great country. So Let us start reading together from now on.
