China’s old Kunqu Opera gets a modern style Kunqu Opera, one of the earliest traditional Chinese drama, has a history of more than 500 years. Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre has recently produced a youth version of ―Peony Pavilion‖, one of the most famous Kunqu plays, to win back young audiences. The play was welcomed in Hong Kong during its run from June 7 to 9. The ―Peony Pavilion‖ was written by Tang Hsien-tsu, a famous writer during the Ming Dynasty. A. a sad B. an unexpected C. a happy D. an interesting B My father had returned from his business visit to London when I came in, rather late, to supper. I could tell at once that he and my mother had been discussing something. In that half-playful, half-serious way I knew so well, he said, "How would you like to go to Eton?" "You bet," I cried quickly catching the joke. Everyone knew it was the most expensive, the most famous of schools. You had to be entered at birth, if not before. Besides, even at 12 or 13, I understood my father. He disliked any form of showing off. He always knew his proper station in life, which was in the middle of the middle class, our house was medium-sized; he had avoided joining Royal Liverpool Golf Club and went to a smaller one instead; though once he had got a second-hand Rolls-Royce at a remarkably low price, he felt embarrassed driving it, and quickly changed it for an Austin 1100. This could only be his delightful way of telling me that the whole boarding school idea was to be dropped. Alas! I should also have remembered that he had a liking for being

different from everyone else, if it did not conflict(冲突) with his fear of drawing attention to himself. It seemed that he had happened to be talking to Graham Brown of the London office, a very nice fellow, and Graham had a friend who had just entered his boy at the school, and while he was in that part of the world he thought he might just as well phone them. I remember my eyes stinging(刺痛) and my hands shaking with the puzzlement of my feelings. There was excitement, at the heart of great sadness. "Oh, he doesn't want to go away," said my mother, "You shouldn't go on like this.‖ ―It's up to him," said my father. "He can make up his own mind." 61.The house the writer's family lived in was ________. A.it drew attention to him B.there was no danger of his showing off C.it was understood as a joke D.it didn't bring him in arguments 64.What was the writer's reaction to the idea of going to Eton? A.He was very unhappy. B.He didn't believe it. C.He had mixed feelings. D.He was delighted. 65.We can know from the passage that ________. A.It is very difficult for a child to get a chance to go to Eton B.Children can go to Eton if they will C.Children who can go to Eton are very famous D.Children don't have the right to decide whether they will go to Eton 第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文并回答问题,然后将答案写到答题卡相应的位置上(请注意问题后的词数要 求)。 [1]While adults need to eat breakfast each day to perform their best, kids need it even more. Their growing bodies and developing brain rely heavily on the regular intake of food. When kids skip breakfast , they can end up going for as long as eighteen hours without food. This period of semi-starvation can create a lot of physical, intellectual, and behavioral problems for them. [2]If you and your kids regularly skip breakfast to save time or to get a few more minutes of sleep, remember that eating a healthy morning meal will probably save your time in the long run. By recharging your brain and your body, you’ll be more efficient in just about everything you do. [3]Interestingly, studies show that kids who skip breakfast are late for and absent from school more often than children who eat breakfast on a regular basis. Time invested in breakfast is much more valuable than the few extra minutes of sleep you might get by skipping the morning meal. If you and your kids seem unable to make time for breakfast,

consider enrolling your children in a school breakfast program. If possible, pack a breakfast brown-bag the night before so that you and your kids can eat on the way to school and work. [4]Some people skip breakfast in an effort to lose weight, but actually it is more likely to cause weight gain rather than weight loss. Skipping breakfast is strongly linked to the development of obesity. According to research, skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control _______________. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal or eat high-calorie snacks to get rid of hunger. [5]To teens, especially teenage girls, skipping breakfast may seem like a perfect way to lose weight.
