A Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The next building was only a few feet away from mine. There was a woman living there, and I had never met her, yet I could see she sat by her window each afternoon, sewing or reading. After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window. I would say to myself. “I wonder why that woman doesn’t wash her window. It really looks terrible.” One bright morning I decided to clean my flat, including washing the window on the inside. Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible (看见). Her window was clean! Then it dawned on me. I had been criticizing (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window. That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcomings? Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (评判) someone, I asked myself first, “Am I looking at him through my own dirty window?” I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly. 56. The writer couldn’t see everything clearly through the window because ________. A. the woman’s window was dirty B. the writer was near-sighted C. the woman lived nearby D. the writer’s window was dirty 57. “It dawned on me” probably means “________”. A. A. they both worked as cleaners B. the writer often washed the window C. the writer had never met the woman before D. they lived in a small town 59. From the passage, we can learn ________. A. one must judge himself before he judges others B. one should often make his windows clean C. one shouldn’t criticize others very often D. one must look at others through his dirty windows B

It was dusk and as I walked alone I came across six large wolves that were feeding on the body of a dead animal. I had heard many stories about wolves as a child and it was this animal that I feared more than any other. The wolves before me were huge, at least 6 feet long and covered with thick grey fur. As I went near, the wolves left the blood-covered snow that surrounded the body and started walking towards me, one after another. They stopped about 20 metres from me and stared. The lead wolf raised his head into the air and took in a deep breath, as if he was smelling my presence. The animals looked both beautiful and frightening, but I knew I could not show them my fear. As I drew nearer, the lead wolf raised its head once more but this time let out a long, loud cry. The awful cry rang out across the silent valley. I had never heard a more frightening sound. I was almost certain it was a sign to be death. Every moment I expected to see the pack of wolves dash（冲）at me. I knew my only hope was to pretend I had no fear. I walked past the line of wolves, like a general （将军） moving among his soldiers. They cried out loud again. But when they saw that their cry did not cause me to change my direction or make me run they feared to come after me, so they let me pass and returned to the dead animal. If I had turned back or tried to run away when they marched out to meet me, I am certain the whole pack would have attacked me in a moment. But my show of false courage scared them and kept them back. 64. Why didn’t the wolves attack the man? A. They were no longer hungry when they saw him.
B. The man showed no fear as he passed by. C. They were too far away to catch the man. D. The man was already known to the wolves. 65. Which of the following is RIGHT according to the passage? A. The wolves threw away the dead animal when they saw the writer. B. The writer enjoyed the beauty of the wolves rather than feared them. C. The lead wolf raised its head twice to show that they feared nobody. D. The writer appeared courageous then but in actual fact was scared. 66. What is the author’s intention in writing this story? A. To show that mountains can be dangerous places. B. To stress the need for courage when in danger. C. To make people aware of the danger of wolves. D. To discuss the habits of mountain wolves. 67. Which is the best title for this story? A. My Mountain Travels B. My Trip to Greece C. In Face of Fear D. A Man Without Fear D Vampires (吸血鬼), creatures of myth, have been around in one form or another for centuries. Terrifying but also attractive, they are as popular in the early 21st century as ever, as the current popularity of Twilight series, and its hero Edward Cullen, show. Vampires first appeared in fiction in the 1700s; in 1895 Irish novelist Bram Stoker published Dracula, introducing the world’s most famous vampire. But just what is it about these drinkers of human blood that continues to fascinate us? Speaking to Eric Lewis of the Times and Transcript website, academic Deborah Wells said that vampires are “culturally adaptive（适应的）”. “We create very different vampires to fit different times. Edward Cullen is not the same as Count Dracula,” she said. Different as they are, Wells believes vampires are “the perfect containers into which we can pour our current cultural anxieties”, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is powerful, yet old and physically ugly. Stoker’s book dealt with fear of the fall of the British Empire, real fears in the day in which it was written. According to the website Bookrags, today’s vampires have all our cultural desires, money, power and sexual attraction. Represented by Cullen, they are noble, handsome young men whom women find irresistible（不可抵抗的）. What’s more, vampires challenge traditional ideas about death, science and parental authority（权威）. This may be why teenagers are drawn to vampire tales. “In many ways, the vampire story shows up teenage concerns,” said Wells. “The emotional intensity (强度) of the relationship with the vampire matches the intensity of how it feels to have your first real love affairs. Your first real love, it really feels like life and death.” 68. The best title for this passage should be ________. A. Why Twilight is so popular nowadays B. Vampires have been around us for long C. Vampires may continue to drink our blood D. We still like the story about vampires 69. What is the vampire like in Bram Stoker’s book? A. Anxious but perfect. B. Afraid of the fall of the British Empire. C. Terrifying but also attractive. D. Powerful, old and ugly.
70. According to the website Bookrags, today’s vampires ________. A. dare to give up traditional ideas B. may not think highly of parental authority C. desire money, power and sexual attraction D. are likely to be resisted by women

Many rich parents would rather send their children abroad to receive education than have them educated in China. As every coin has two sides, studying abroad is not an exception(例外). There are advantages for people to attend school abroad. In the first place, he can use the foreign language in his daily life so that his ability in the second language may be greatly improved, as it is obvious that there is no better chance to improve second-language than living in the country where it is spoken. While studying in a foreign country, he will most likely meet many others from overseas and it is possible to make friends from all over the world. This is not only exciting on the social level, but could lead to important overseas contacts in his career as well. He can get familiar with the knowledge updated in science and get the chance to use the first-rate facilities (设备) available. In this way, there is every chance that he is able to widen his horizon (眼界) and broaden his mind. Of course, attending schools abroad may bring about a series of problems. The most serious problem is language barrier (障碍). Most of the students who go abroad don’t have enough skills in the language spoken there. As a result, on arriving there, they will find it difficult to understand what the teachers say. Besides, for lack of knowledge of the customs of the local people, they may constantly run into trouble in dealing with various situations. When we cooperate with someone we like, we will certainly feel very happy by sharing joys and sorrows together. However, it challenges us when we have to face someone we dislike. I advise that we focus on work rather than partners. It is likely that after working for a long time, we’ll find that he is also easy to get along well with. In our daily life and study, if we want to accomplish our work efficiently, it is a must for us to learn to cooperate with others. Not only can it save us a lot of time and energy, but we can also learn much from our partners by working with them. How can we become good partners? In my opinion, we should show respect for others. When they make mistakes, it is our duty to point them out. Finally, we mustn’t embarrass others and put them in an unfavorable position. Thank you for your listening!
