Lose-Win is weak. It’s easy to get stepped on. It’s easy to be the nice guy. It’s easy to give in, all in the name of being a peacemaker. A girl named Jenny once told me about her 36 in the world of Lose Win during her eighth grade year before she finally broke 37 of it: My 38 with my mom all started one day 39 she said to me sarcastically (讽刺地) ,“Wow, you’re sure sassy(敢顶嘴的,时尚的)today.” I 40 it so literally (字面地)that then and there I decided to close myself off from her and never 41 back to her. So every time she would say something 42 I disagreed with her I would just say, “Okay, 43 you want, Mom.”

But I really got cold quickly. And my 44 began to build. One night I talked to my mom about the school homework and she said, “Oh, that’s 45 ”and then went back to mop the floor. “Don’t you ever 46 ?” I thought. But I didn’t say anything and stormed off. She 47 had no idea I was upset. She would have been willing to talk to me had I 48 her how important it was to me. At last, I just blew up. “Mom, this has got to 49 . You tell me everything you want me to do and I just do it because it’s 50 than fighting. Well, I’m sick of it.” This all came as a 51 to her. After my blowup, we felt like we were 52 all over in our relationship. But it’s getting better all the time. We discuss things now and I always 53 my feeling with her. 第三部分:阅读理解 (共 20 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 40 分)
A I recently turned fifty, which is young for a tree, midlife for an elephant, and ancient for a sportsman. Fifty is a nice number for the states in the US or for a national speed limit but it is not a number that I was prepared to have hung on me. Fifty is supposed to be my father’s age. But now I am stuck with this number and everything it means. A few days ago, a friend tried to cheer me up by saying, “Fifty is what forty used to be.” He had made an inspirational point. Am I over the hill? People keep telling me that the hill has been moved, and I keep telling them that the high-jump bar has dropped from the six feet I once easily

cleared to the four feet that is impossible for me now. “You are not getting older, you are getting better.” says Dr.Joyce Brothers. This, however, is the kind of doctor who inspires a second opinion. And so as I approach the day when I cannot even jump over the tennis net, I am moved to share some thoughts on aging with you, and I am moved to show how aging feels to me physically and mentally. Getting older, of course, is obviously a better change than the one that brings you eulogies (悼词). In fact, a poet named Robert Browning considered it the best change of all: Grow old along with me! The best is yet to me. Whether or not Browning was right, most of my first fifty years have been golden ones, so I will settle for what is ahead being as good as what has gone by. I find myself moving toward what is ahead with a curious blend ( 混合) of both fighting and accepting my aging, hoping that the philosopher(哲学家)was right when he said, “Old is always fifteen years from now.” 56. The author seems to tell us in Paragraph I that ______ . A. time alone will tell B. time goes by quickly C. time will show what is right D. time makes one forget the past 57. When the author turned fifty, people around him _________. A. tried to comfort him B. got inspiration with him C. were friendlier with him D. found him more talkative 58. The author considers his fifty years of life ___________. A. peaceful B. ordinary C. satisfactory D. regretful 59. We can infer from the passage that ______________. A. the old should led a simple life B. the old should face the fact of aging C. the old should take more exercise D. the old should fill themselves with curiosity B When we think of leadership, we often think of strength and power. But what are these really mean, and how do they operate? Leadership today is not about forcing others to do things, if this is even possible. It is short-term, and tends to backfire. If you order someone to do something against their will, they may do it because they feel they must, but the anger they feel will do more harm in the long-term, they will also experience fear. Fear causes the thinking brain to shut down, making the person unable to function at his or her best. If they associate you with this emotion of fear, they will become less functional around you, and you will have succeeded in not only shooting yourself in the foot, but possibly making a very good employee or partner unable to perform effectively. Fear has no place in leadership. The way we influence people in a lasting way is by our own character, and our understanding and use of emotion. We can order someone to do something, which may be part of the work day; or we can employ them at the emotional level, so they became fully devoted to the projects and provide some of their own motivation(积极性). Today’s work place is all about relationships As a human being as well as a worker, everyone produces just a bit more for someone they like. Leaders understand the way things work. They know the pay check is not the single most motivating factor (因素) in the work life of most people.
高三英语 第 5 页 共 12 页

The true strength of leadership is an inner strength that comes from the confidence of emotional intelligence---knowing your own emotions, and how to handle them, and those of others. Developing your emotional intelligence is the single best thing you can do if you want to develop your relationships with people around you, which is the key to the leader-ship skills. 60. An employee may have a feeling of fear in the work place when______________. A. he is forced to do things B. be cannot work at his best C. he feels his brain shut down D he thinks of his work as too heavy 61. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. People tend to associate leadership with fear B. Working conditions affect people’s physical health C. Good relationship is the key to business success D. Smart people are more functional in the work place. 62. To positively influence employees, a leader should first of all ____________. A. provide better suggestions B. develop his own personality C. give his employees a pay raise D. hide his own emotion of fear 63. Good leadership is mainly seen in a leader’s ability to____________. A .provide a variety of projects for employees B. help raise employee’s living standards C. give employees specific instructions and show consideration to them D. deal wisely with employees’ emotions C There is a new type of small advertisement becoming increasingly common in newspaper classified columns. It is sometimes placed among “situations vacant”, although it does not offer anyone a job, and sometimes it appears among “situations wanted”, although it is not placed by someone looking for a job either. What it does is to offer help in applying for a job. “Contact us before writing application”, or “Make use of our long experience in preparing your curriculum vitae (简历), or job history”, is how it is usually expressed. The growth and apparent success of such a specialized service is, of course, a reflection on the current high levels of unemployment. It is also an indication of growing importance of the curriculum vitae (or job history), with the suggestion that it may now qualify as an art form in its own right. There was a game when job seekers simply wrote letters of application. “Just put down your name, address, age and whether you have passed any exams”, was about the average level of advice offered to young people applying for their first jobs when I left school. The letter was really just for openers, it was explained. Everything else could and should be saved for the interview. And in those days of full employment the technique worked. The letter proved that you could write and were available for work. Your eager face and intelligent replies did the rest. Later, as you moved up the ladder, something slightly more sophisticated (精密的,高级的) was called for. The advice then was to put something in the letter which would distinguish you from the rest. It might be the aggressive approach. “Your search is over. I am the person you are looking for,” was a widely used trick that occasionally succeeded. Or it might be some special feature specially designed for the job in view.
高三英语 第 6 页 共 12 页

There is no doubt, however, that it is the increasing number of applicants with university education at all points in the process of engaging staff that has led to the greater importance of the curriculum vitae. 64. The new type of advertisement which is appearing in newspaper columns ________. A. informs job hunters of the opportunities available B. promises useful advice to those looking for employment C. divides available jobs into various types D. informs employers that people are available for work 65. Nowadays a demand for this specialized type of service has been created because _____. A. there is lack of jobs available for artistic people B. there are so many top-level jobs available C. there are so many people out of work D. the job history is considered to be a work of art 66. In the past it was expected that first-job hunters would _________. A. write an informal letter giving their life history B. pass some exams before applying for a job C. have no qualifications other than being able to read and write D. keep any detailed information until they obtained an interview 67. Later, as one went on to apply more important jobs, one was advised to include in the letter ______. A. something that would attract attention to one’s application B. a personal opinion about the organization one was typing to join C. something that would upset the person reading it D. a lie that one could easily get with telling D Perhaps a parent’s most important contribution toward raising a trustful child is to develop a relationship founded on trust. A child of any age will feel proud and grown-up if parents frequently show their trust. In court a defendant(被告) is innocent until proved guilty. But in the family, a teenager “defendant” is too often assumed guilty. Even when the child is caught in a complete lie, this should not be the end of trust. A parent can tell a child that a single lie is forgivable. Yet it should be clear that if lies continue, the child, like the boy who cried wolf, will suffer loss of trust. When my wife and I discovered that our son Tom, then 13, had lied about throwing a party while we were away, we grounded him for a month. We also told Tom that we could no longer trust him, and we could not allow him to stay alone overnight again. This loss of freedom was an important lesson; he learned how hard it is to live with people when they don’t trust him. As a result, now more than three years later we can again trust Tom to stay alone overnight. Parents must always remember there is no easy answer to this universal problem of lying. We can set a good example, allow for privacy, monitor friendship, develop trust and punish wrong doing, but still we discover our child has lied to us. Finally that’s why there is a need for trust on both sides of a parent-child relationship. Lying destroys closeness and friendship. For that reason, parents should always try to give a child the feeling that they can be trusted with the truth. Parents may start with a child’s trust, but as the child grows older, parents must earn it.

68. When the writer and his wife discovered that their son had lied, they _________. A. took him from all his freedom B. decided that they could never trust him again C. forbade him to stay alone overnight for more than three years D. arranged for him to live with people who do not trust him for more than three years 69. We can infer from the passage that very often ________. A. parents don’t trust their child as they should B. defendants are usually proved not guilty in court C. parents have too much trust in their child D. some children are founded guilty in court 70. According to the passage, the writer believes that _____________. From the picture, we can see that Li Ming is "studying hard".There are many books for him to read and many papers for him to do. How poor he is! At the same time, all his family are also busy working for him. Nowadays, many parents expect too much of their sons or daughters. They hope that their sons or daughters study hard in order to be admitted to an ideal college or a key university. It is for this reason that parents are strict with their children. However, they don’t realize what they have become a heavy burden or a great pressure. It is the hardwork or the great pressure that changes their children that much. So I hope parents provide a proper environment for their children. Only in this way, will they try their best and succeed at last!
