At this point my friend spoke up.A wonderful mother of three and founder of a progressive school, she had probably never once in her life treated any child so harshly.I expected my friend would give this woman a solid mother-to-mother talk about controlling herself and about the effect this behavior has on a child. Instead,my friend said,“What a beautiful little boy! How old is he?” The woman answered cautiously,“He’s three.”My friend went on to comment about how curious he seemed and how her own three children were just like him in the grocery store, pulling things off shelves,so interested in all the wonderful colors and packages.“He seems so bright and intelligent,” my friend said. The woman had the boy in her arms by now and a shy smile came upon her face.Gently brushing his hair out of his eyes, she said,“Yes,he’s very smart and curious, but sometimes he wears me out.” My friend responded sympathetically,“Yes,they can do that;they are so full of energy.” As we walked away,I heard the mother speaking more kindly to the boy about getting home and cooking his dinner.“We’ll have your favorite—macaroni and cheese,” she told him. 21.What was that woman busy doing when the author looked at her?( ) A.She was choosing items off the shelves. My first experience was a road trip from Toronto to Las Vegas, paid for by a car delivery service.Other trips followed and then I started a travel blog (博客).It was intended to be my calling card for assignment travel photography.Yet even with my blog and past experience, email after email I sent to publications, trying to get work, went unanswered. When they did get in touch, editors told me that I had no chance of making a career with travel photography. While I struggled to get on the path that I wanted, and as I expanded my blog to help get me there,I found myself wearing the hat of a full-time blogger. Luckily,I got in at the right time.It was 2010,and the travel industry was just starting to turn its attention to bloggers. As I never could have predicted,my blogging-not my photography-did take me around the world successfully. At first,I thought it was for personal reasons, but I realized later that it was for free marketing for my blogging. Within two years,I was being asked to speak at travel blogging conferences, which helped me to raise a network of friends around the world.Even more meaningful, however, was when I saw that my travels were also helping other people. My blog and social media followers saw that I chased my dreams and told me over and over again how they needed that kind of example, which was absent in their lives elsewhere. 25.After the author quit her job,she decided to . Ellie Wen,18,was volunteering at a community center in Los Angeles. The center was set up to help immigrant families. She happened to meet adults in an EFL (English as a foreign language) class.“When I saw them struggling hard,I wondered how people in poor countries could learn English,”Ellie said.
So she started a Website,“Repeat After Us”,where people can listen to English and practice their accents.Volunteers have helped Ellie record more than 6,600 texts, including Abraham Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address”. Hard work pays off. There were so many times that Ellie was discouraged, but she stuck to it.The Website crashed early on,and all the recordings were lost. But volunteers worked together vigorously to start over, and the visitors returned to the site. “Just follow your idea and know that the world is so kind.Even if you do have trouble, people will help you,”Ellie said. “I was really excited the first month, when we had 49 visitors,”she said. Now,more than 480,000 people from all over the world have visited the site. “I get e-mails from China,Egypt,India, and Brazil.”They say,“Thank you so much for this resource,we’ve been waiting for it for so long!”Ellie loves knowing she is helping so many people. Pupils remember more and behave better when 3D images are used in lessons, research suggests. They are quicker to learn and absorb new concepts, and display higher levels of concentration. Professor Anne Bamford,of the University of the Arts,London, studied the effectiveness of 3D content in 15 schools across seven countries, including the UK.Pupils in 3D classes can remember more than those in the 2D classes after four weeks, improving test scores by an average of 17 percent compared with eight percent for 2D lessons. They gave more detailed answers to the tasks and were more likely to think in 3D,using hand gestures and mime (模仿动作) to answer the test questions successfully. The teachers commented that the pupils in the 3D groups had deeper understanding, increased attention span, more motivation and higher engagement in the lessons. Children are used to 3D with the rise of computer games that use the technology —90 percent of those in the study had seen a 3D film.Schools would need 3D—enabled projectors (投影仪),laptops with good picture capabilities,3D software and glasses for children to introduce animations (动作) into classrooms. But Danny Nicholson,an educationist, said the technology would be impractical to use in schools and could be costly. He said, “While I think the idea of 3D technology is very interesting,I worry that 3D is a bit of an expensive gimmick (小玩意儿).There are a few cases where a true 3D image might help, but most of the time, good 2D models that can be moved would be just as effective.” In the US,one school district in Colorado is already in the process of having 1,000 3D projectors fixed in classrooms. And the University of Caledonia, which carries out scientific research into the Lake Tabon Basin, has used 3D presentations with Grade Six pupils. Those who watched the 3D presentations were more engrossed and reported a general increase in their interest in science compared with students who watched the 2D version. 32.What is the main idea of the first three paragraphs?( ) A.There are slight differences between 3D and 2D images. B.Pupils perform better when 3D images are used in classes. C.Schools have difficulty in making full use of 3D technology. D.3D technology is always more effective than 2D technology. 33.Danny Nicholson holds the view that 3D . A.is of no help in classes B.has a bright future in classes C.is more practical than 2D models
D.may not be affordable for schools 34.What can we learn from the last paragraph?( ) A.3D technology will replace 2D models in the future. B.Many pupils are now more interested in science than before. C.Teachers will use the 3D technology through specific training. D.3D will soon be put into use in one school district in Colorado. 35.The underlined word “engrossed” in the last paragraph means . A.absorbed B.annoyed C.relaxed D.confused 答案及剖析: 32.B 段落大意题。 Pupils remember more and behave better when 3D images are used in lessons, research suggests. He said,“While I think the idea of 3D technology is very interesting,I worry that 3D is a bit of an expensive gimmick (小 玩意儿).可知,他认为 3D 技术虽然很好,但是对于学校来说有点过于昂贵。故 D 正确。 34.D 推理判断题。根据本段第一句 In the US,one school district in Colorado is already in the process of having 1,000 3D projectors fixed in classrooms.可知, 科罗拉多州的一个校区正在安装 3D 投影仪,因此 D 项正确。 35.A 猜测词义题。根据本句 Those who watched the 3D presentations were more engrossed and reported a general increase in their interest in science compared with students who watched the 2D version.可知,那些使用了 3D 技术的学生比那些使用 2D 技 术的学生进步更大。该词应该表示的是与学习有关的褒义词,排除 B、D 项,C 项与学习的关 系不大。只有 A 项“专注的”符合。 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。 There was once a lonely girl who longed so much for love. One day while she was walking in the woods she found two starving birds.36. She cared them with love and the birds grew strong.Every morning they greeted her with a wonderful song. The girl felt the great love from the birds. 37. The larger and the stronger of the two birds flew from the cage. The girl was so frightened that he would fly away.As he flew close, she grasped him wildly. Her heart felt glad at her success in capturing him.38. She opened her hand and stared in horror at the dead bird. Her desperate love had killed him. She noticed the other bird moving back and forth on the edge of the cage. She could feel his great need for freedom. He needed to fly into the clear, blue sky.39. The bird circled once, twice, three times. The girl watched delightedly at the bird’s enjoyment.40. She wanted the bird to be happy.Suddenly the bird flew closer and landed softly on her shoulder. It sang the sweetest songs that she had ever heard. The fastest way to lose love is to hold on to it too tight, while the best way to keep love is to give it wings!
A.She gave them some delicious food and left. B.Suddenly she felt the bird go limp (松软的). C.Her heart was no longer concerned with her loss. D.One day she left with the two birds at home alone. E.She took them home and put them in a small cage. F.One day the girl left the door of the cage open. One possible version: These days many high school graduates are learning driving during their summer vacation. In my opinion, learning to drive a car is a very positive experience for an individual. Knowing that you are able to drive makes you confident. Also, the ability to drive gives you a feeling of independence, which means you can go wherever and whenever you want.It is much more convenient and quicker to get around in a car than to wait for a bus. On the other hand,it is sometimes difficult to find a parking place in the city with the number of cars increasing so fast.Besides,it can be expensive—not just to buy a car,but also to pay for petrol and all the repairs your car will need.Apart from that, lack of experience may get you into a car accident. If so,it will be wiser to take a bus.
