B In America, drivers’ education is part of the regular high school curriculum(课 程). Every student in his or her second year of high school is required to take a class in driver’s education. However, unlike other courses, it is not given during the regular school year. Instead it is a summer course. The course is divided up into two parts: class time for learning laws and regulations and driving time to practice driving. Class time is not unlike any other class. The students have a text from which they study the basic laws they must know to pass the written driving test that is given to anyone wanting to get a driver’s license. Driving time is a chance for the students to get behind the wheel (steering wheel) and practice starting steering, backing up, parking, switching lanes, turning corners, and all the other maneuvers (操作) required to drive a car. Each student is required to drive a total of six hours. The students are divided up into groups of four. The students and the instructor go out driving for two hour blocks of time. Thus, each student gets half an hour driving time per outing. The instructor and “driver” sit in the front seats and the other three students sit in the back. Drivers Ed cars are unlike other cars in which they have two sets of brakes, one on the driver’s side and one on the other side where the instructor sits. Thus, if the student driver should run into difficulties the instructor can take over. The car also has another special feature. On the top of the car is a sign that reads: STUDENT DRIVER. That lets nearby drivers know that they should use extra caution because the student driver is a beginning driver, not very experienced and prone to driving slowly.
After the student has passed the driver’s education course and reached the appropriate age to drive (this age differs in every state but in most cases the person must be 16 years old), they can go to a designated state office to take their driver;s test, which is made up of an eye examination, a written test, and a road test. The person must pass all three tests in order to be given a driver’s license. If the person did well in his or her driver’s education class, he or she will pass the test with flying colors and get a driver’s license. 41. Which of the following is the best title for this passage? A．Driving Classes. C．Driving Course. 42. B．Driving Learning. D．Driving Experience.

43. To prevent accidents, a drivers Ed car _____. A．has a sign inside it C．is big enough to hold five persons B．has two sets of brakes D．can’t run very fast
44. Which of the following does not agree with the requirements for the students wanting to get their driver’s license? A．They must be 16 years of age. B．They should go to have their driver’s test. C．They must have their eyes examined. D．They ought to do well in their driver’s course. 45. In the last sentence, “with flying colors” means _____. A．happily B．successfully C. colorfully D. quickly
C Why do men die earlier than women? The latest research makes it known that the reason could be that men’s hearts go into rapid decline when they reach middle age.
The largest study of the effects of aging on the heart has found that women’s longevity may be linked to the fact that their hearts do not lose their pumping power with age. “We have found that the power of the male heart falls by 20-25 percent between 18 and 70 years of age,” said the head of the study, David Goldspink of Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. “Within the heart there are millions of cells that enable it to beat. Between the age of 20 and 70, one-third of those cells die and are not replaced in men,” said Goldspink. “This is part of the aging process.” What surprises scientists is that the female heart sees very little loss of these cells. A healthy 70-year-old woman’s heart could perform almost as well as a 20-year-old one’s. “This gender difference might just explain why women live longer than men,” said Goldspink. They studied more than 250 healthy men and women between the ages of 18 and 80, focusing on healthy persons to remove the confusing influence of disease. “The team has yet to find why aging takes a greater loss on the male heart,” said Goldspink. The good news is that men can improve the health of their heart with regular exercise. Goldspink stressed that women also need regular exercise to prevent their leg muscles becoming smaller and weaker as they age. 46. The underlined word “longevity” in the second paragraph probably refers to “________”. A. long life effect 47. The text mainly talks about ________. A. men’s heart cells C. hearts and long life B. women’s aging process、 D. the gender difference B. health C. aging D.
48. According to the text, the UK scientists have known that ________. A. women have more cells than men when they are born B. the female heart loses few of the cells with age
C. women can replace the cells that enable the heart to beat D. women never lose their pumping power with age 49. If you want to live longer, you should ________. A. enable your heart to beat much faster B. exercise regularly to keep your heart healthy C. find out the reason for aging D. prevent your cells from being lost 50. We can know from the passage that ________. A. scientists are on the way to finding out why the male heart loses more of the cells B. the reason why aging takes a greater loss on the male heart has been found out C. the team has done something to prevent the male from suffering the greater loss D. women over 70 could lose more heart cells than those at the age of 20
