Becoming a woman, Becoming a legend
English writer, who first gave the novel its modern character through the treatment of everyday life (第一个现实地描绘日常平凡生活中平凡人物的小 说家)

Austen was popular all through the 19th century , and in the 20th century she became almost a cult figure to many well-known writers.

.

Features of Austen’s writing
1) Jane Austen is one of the realistic novelists although she lived in the romantic period .

2) She draws vivid and realistic pictures of everyday life of the country society in her novels.

3) Austen’s works have a very narrow literary field. She confines herself to small country parishes, Whose simple people become the characters of her novels, but within her own field, she is unrivaled.

4)
Her language is simple, humorous, witty and with quiet irony .

Her plots are straightforward, and have little action.
Her characters are like real living persons.

Her prose flows easily and naturally.
Her dialogues are admirably true to life.

There are two common themes in Austen’s books:

? The loss of illusions, which usually leads characters to a more mature outlook ?The clash between traditional moral ideals and the everyday demands of life.
