Ⅳ. 阅读理解(共 20 小题; 每小题 2 分, 满分 40 分) (A) If you are studying at school, do be a polite and clever student! There is no excuse for not doing your assignments(作业). If you can’t come to school, you should call your teacher or your classmate and ask about homework. It is your responsibility to find out what homework you have missed. It is not the teacher’s job to remind you of the missed assignments. You must not be absent on a test day. If you are seriously ill, call and let the teacher know you will not be there for the test. If your teacher allows a make-up test, you should take the test again within one or two days after you return to class. Serious illness is the only reason for missing a test. Be on time! It is impolite to be late. Also, it bothers other students. If you must come in late, be sure to do it quietly. Have your books and papers out of your bag before you come into the room. Then go to your seat and sit down quietly. In the USA, it is not necessary to knock before you enter the classroom. Most teachers will give you a low grade if you are often late. In America, you should call your teacher by his or her last name instead of “teacher”. Also you should use Mr, Miss, Ms or Mrs before the last name (such as Mrs Smith or Mr Jones). This is polite. The teacher will tell you the title that he or she likes. It is impolite in the USA to eat, drink or chew gum during class. Don’t do these until the break. Also, removing your shoes in the classroom is not polite.

The days of making easy money from ringtones—short clips of music for mobile phones—are over. What has been a hugely profitable business is coming under pressure from a narrowing of the craze to a smaller group of mostly younger people, a shift in the nature of ringtones themselves, and growing competition among distributors(经销商). In the UK and other European countries, where the fashion first took hold, many of the people who once paid£2 ($3. 5) or more for a 10-second clip have given up buying ringtones, said Chris Jones, an analyst at Canalys, a technology industry consultancy(咨询公司): People were doing it because it was a new thing to do. That has worn off with a big part of the market. In the US, where the business is at a much earlier stage, the craze appears to have stalled even before it has reached a huger market. Only about one in 10 mobile subscribers is buying ringtones. That is the same proportion as a year ago, according to InfoSpace, a US ringtone company that occupies 47 percent of the US market, though it adds that reliable statistics about the market are difficult to come by. At the same time, a new band of distributors that sprang up to sell ringtones is finding the fat profits much harder to come by. Users are starting to switch away from the familiar polyphonic(多 音的) renditions of famous tunes to short clips of the original music known as truetones or realtones. Most of the profits from these go straight to the record companies, not the middlemen who once made a killing from earlier roughly-made versions. 61. What would be the best title for the passage? A. Decreasing ringtones B. The disadvantages of ringtones C. Why people do not buy ringtones D. Ringtones—a losing tone 62. From the first two paragraphs we can infer that ________. Which of the following statements is TRUE? A. In America, the ringtone business has been developing at a fast speed. B. InfoSpace is the largest ringtone company in the US. C. InfoSpace has not got the reliable statistics about the ringtone market. D. A new band of distributors has appeared because of the easy fat profits. 65. Your job, however,is to keep them safe—and that requires knowing where they are and who they are with. Let them know clearly that it’s not because you want to dominate(支配) their life and control them;it’s because it’s a safety issue for family members to keep track of one another. When they’re home and sit down to eat a meal, sit down with them. You need to open up to them about your life. Tell them an interesting incident at the office, let them in on a bit of family gossip, discuss a piece of news with them. They are glad that you see them as old enough to be in on a few experiences of your life. By letting a teen in on your life, they just may let you in of theirs. 66. used. Today, there are several kinds of smart cards, all of which are very popular in the market: IC (Integrated Circuit) Microprocessor Cards: Microprocessor Cards (chip cards) offer a larger memory and better security than the traditional magnetic stripe cards do. Chip cards can also hold data. These cards are used for many things. Thus, chips have been the main platform for cards that hold a secure digital identity. Some examples of these cards are: Cards that hold money. Cards that provide safe access to a network. Cards that allow setting stop boxes on televisions to remain safe from privacy. Optical Memory Cards: Optical memory cards look like cards with a piece of CD on the top. Optical memory cards can store up to 4MB of data. But once written, the data cannot be changed or removed. Thus, this type of card is good for keeping records, such as medical files, driving records or travel histories. Today, these have no processors in them (although this is coming in the near future). While the cards are almost as cheap as chip cards, the card readers are expensive.

Anxiety especially affects students who are perfectionists(完美主义者) and want to achieve high scores in every test. Such students put pressure on themselves and are always tense, because they want to gain perfect scores.
