The research, from the University of Alberta in Canada, showed that when eggs come in contact with stomach enzymes (酶) they produce a protein that acts in the same way as ACE_inhibitors, but more work is needed to show the effects outside a lab and in the human body. Earlier this month,British researchers declared that, contrary to popular beliefs,it is healthy to go to work on an egg. They concluded that the type of cholesterol (胆固醇) found in eggs has little effect on increasing heart disease risks. Researcher Professor Bruce Griffin, from the University of Surrey, said:“The wrong beliefs linking egg eating to high blood cholesterol and heart disease must be corrected. The amount of fat in our diet has an effect on blood cholesterol that is several times greater than the relatively small amounts of cholesterol found in eggs. The UK public do not need to be limiting the number of eggs they eat. They can be encouraged to include them in a healthy diet as they are one of nature’s most nutritious foods.” The British Heart Foundation dropped its threeeggaweek limit in 2005.However,almost half of Britons believe the limit still applies.

B In the USA,driving laws differ somewhat from state to state and considerably from what you are used to.Here is a list of some important differences. Speed Limits Speed limits are designated in miles per hour (MPH),not kilometers. One mile equals 1.6093 kilometers.Within cities the speed limit is usually 25 mph.Major streets with two or more lines may post a higher limit of 35 mph,but you should assume a 25 mph limit unless you see a sign with a higher limit.Highways have a speed limit of 55 mph, with some interstate highways posting a higher limit of 65 mph.Fines for speeding are heavy and can result in higher insurance fees and license suspension(扣留). Driving on the Right Unlike the UK,some countries in Asia, and in Australia,in the United States cars drive on the right side of the road, and steering wheels (方向盘) are located on the left side of the car. Even if you don’t drive a car,you need to be aware of this rule.Every year a few international students are hit by cars because they step off the roadsides into the path of oncoming traffic. On most streets cars will be coming from your left, not your right. Insurance Most states require you to maintain certain minimum levels of insurance on your car in case you are involved in an accident. The insurance covers your liability (责任) for damage to other cars and injuries caused to all the people involved in the accident. We strongly recommend getting insurance that covers more than the legal minimum. You can also get collision(碰撞) insurance to cover the cost of fixing your car and theft insurance in case the car is stolen, but this is only worthwhile for a new car or a model of recent years. If you don’t have car insurance, you won’t be able to register the car. 5.When driving in an American city, you’d better limit your speed within about________. A.25 mph B.35 mph C.55 mph D.65 mph

7.We learn from the passage that international students in America________. A.always drive cars on the left C.know about the rules clearly B.can hardly afford to have their own cars D.should pay more attention to the rules

A.while B.as C.though D.because 解析:选 B。 6.(2013· 重庆八中检测)Work ________,you can go home for the Spring Festival. A.finishing B.finished C.had finished D.were finished 解析:选 B。 7.He felt________about that kind of silly mistakes. A.embarrassed B.frightened C.ashamed D.satisfied 解析: 选 A 。 embarrassed“ 尴尬的 ” , feel embarrassed about“因??感到尴尬”。frightened“害怕的”;ashamed“羞愧的”,其后应加 of;satisfied“满意的”。 8.Sorry,I can’t go with you.I’m________a serious headache. A./;the B.a;the C.the;/ D./;/ 解析: 选 C。 10.All the books I have are here.You may borrow ________ you like. A.whatever B.whichever C.whenever D.however 解析:选 B。 用 what(ever)时,一般不限定选择范围;而 which(ever) 则用于有限定范围的选择。 11.—Everybody knows smoking is harmful to health,but still so many people smoke. —Exactly!So our country is planning to start a________against smoking.

A.war B.campaign C.motion D.struggle 解析:选 B。 12 . A.regular B.severe C.special D.nervous 解析: 选 B。 13.(2013· 南岸区期中)Studies show that the things that contribute most to a sense of happiness cannot be bought, ________a good family life, friendship and work satisfaction. A.flying B.flew C.to fly D.was flying 解析:选 A。 Ⅱ.阅读理解 A (2013· 陕西五校模拟)Starting the day on an egg could keep your blood pressure (血压) under control, research suggests.Scientists have shown that eggs produce proteins with a function similar to that of powerful blood pressurelowering drugs. The research, from the University of Alberta in Canada, showed that when eggs come in contact with stomach enzymes (酶) they produce a protein that acts in the same way as ACE_inhibitors, but more work is needed to show the effects outside a lab and in the human body.
